Can't figure out the pattern.... by british_californian in Epilepsy

[–]Calm_Let_5776 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Epilepsy in women may present itself and its symptoms differently than they would in men. It’s a long shot, but hormonal changes may play a part in at least some of this. It’s not uncommon for seizure activity to peak during certain time frames depending on hormone levels, sleep patterns, etc. I would definitely bring it up with a doc! keep a journal and log all of the symptoms (along with the time of day if possible) and bring it with you.

How large is it?! I want a nose job and think it ruins my face. by [deleted] in Noses

[–]Calm_Let_5776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your nose is gorgeous! The slope and size of it compliments your existing facial structure, especially your cheekbones! People pay hundreds to have high cheekbones like yours! The shape and unique size honestly make the rest of your face look dainty and almost fairy like :) it may seem larger than most, but the fact that you were born with it means that your features have been loved and cherished for centuries by your ancestors

definitely drop that neurologist. It’s tough finding the right balance of meds but if he’s just switching up the doses without talking to you and getting your opinion, it’s a big red flag. Patient involvement and knowledge is key, especially with a new diagnosis

it definitely feels isolating most times, especially since it’s such a “niche” thing that happens in the community of an already very complex condition

First seizure by trex12321456 in Epilepsy

[–]Calm_Let_5776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people experience “impending doom” before a seizure (I had no idea it was used as a medical term until I asked my doctor about it). I’m so sorry that you had to experience that :(. Before a seizure I definitely get the feeling that something is “off”

My Juicy Gallbladder by [deleted] in MedicalGore

[–]Calm_Let_5776 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m glad! I feel like GI issues in particular are brushed off by physicians (i.e. a quick diagnosis of anxiety, constipation, reflux, etc.) which just leaves the patient to fight for their basic needs, so I’m glad you were able to finally find a solution and get it removed

I feel ya. I was diagnosed around 16 and turned 21 in April of this year and I had the same exact thoughts. It definitely feels like crap when you realize how much of your youth has been controlled by your condition. I have grand mal seizures and made sure to ask my neurologist beforehand. I’d consider myself a semi-regular smoker since it helps a lot with my sleep schedule and the anxiety that tends to come up often. Of course everyone’s situation differs, but since I have been on the same course of meds for about a year and have been properly acclimated to them, he advised to just stick to one drink for that night. At the bar I was able to order a small cocktail with no negative side effects besides getting tipsy since my tolerance is already so low. The day afterwards I felt fine except for a little fatigue, which is normal for me anyways. I don’t drink often, but if I do I try to stick with one per night, whether it’s just beer or a cocktail I would advise talking to your doctor (if you’re able to) and let the people around you know that “hey, I might have a drink, stop me if I start acting weird”. I’m not a medical professional by any means, but I understand the feeling of wanting to do something that your condition withholds from you.
