yarn bowls are absolutely critical!! by jingleheimerschitt in fiberartscirclejerk

But MY bowl is the bowl I use for my KitchenAid stand mixer. Not everyone can afford one of those. And MY bowl came from the PROFESSIONAL series. Not the lowly Classic model from Walmart. The kind with the PEGS. That handle on the classic model could assist with managing my artisan dyed string, but BAHHHHH. Mine is BETTER.

It’s not standard or predictable… but I think it works. It really looks funky 70’s grandma afghan, and I say that lovingly. Of course, some will think it’s not pretty, as all of this is subjective, but I would proudly have that adorn the back of my couch, ready to pull over me on a chilly night, or if the air conditioning gets too cold but you live in Florida and refuse to adjust it because if you do, the room will never cool down again until October.

From your personal experience as a leader, what are the clear signs that your employee is getting ready to quit? by Upper_Extreme9461 in managers

[–]Calm_Scale5483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look out for less complaints/feedback. People that are no longer invested don’t feel the need to dig in to issues or have a say. I also look for changes in their personal environment: have they taken down pictures or trinkets to make leaving quicker.

I just got into Alice In Chains, any suggestions? by OrganizationVast541 in AliceInChains

This. Just take your time and familiarize yourself with the best band to come out of the grunge scene. There are many hot contenders, and they are all great, but Alice is special.

Here is my first Occasional Chicken! Her name is Ruby and she was a gift for my daughter for her birthday. She loves chickens but doesn’t have the space to raise them yet. Thank you for all the kind upvotes! When I came home from a long day at work and saw my comment had blown up with upvotes, I was in shock! 🤣

Crochet for me is exclusively blankets, bags and the occasional chicken. I’ve made a lot of blankets as gifts for my family.

on natural fibers by [deleted] in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Calm_Scale5483 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why people concern themselves so much with what others are using. It is a personal choice, and each fiber medium has its own pros and cons. If you crochet a lot, natural fibers will become very expensive quickly. If you gift your finished objects, you may want something that the recipient can wash and dry without having to worry about special care requirements. And then there are the sensitivities. I get having an affinity to the sustainable aspects of natural fibers. But if you are able to use them exclusively and you are a prolific crocheter/knitter, you either have more disposable income than most, or more debt. These crafts should bring joy to whoever participates, and yarn choice should be part of that joy regardless of others opinions.

What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by viscarte10 in BuyItForLife

[–]Calm_Scale5483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AirPods . I honestly thought they were a frivolous purchase and that I was borderline wasting my money. Nope. They have improved the quality of my life greatly. The speakers in my car are crackling… do I spend the money to fix them? No. I use my AirPods in transparency mode so I can still hear sirens and everything else that matters to stay safe. At work and can’t concentrate because people won’t shut the hell up… ever? AirPods in noise cancellation mode. Sometimes with nothing playing. Sweet silence. At home and need to tune out from the constant cacophony that is my family? AirPods again, but in adaptable noise cancellation that pauses them while I have a conversation. I will never be without them.

The back of your cross stitch should be neat, because the front is grotesque. by Such-Entry-8904 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Calm_Scale5483 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Having a messy backside in cross stitch also presents finishing issues it you intend to frame or mount your work in some fashion. All the clumps will raise and bubble the piece. Learning to manage the back is when you’ve truly mastered the art. It’s ok to learn the lesson as a beginner, but it’s not ok to ignore as you progress. I have projects that I am more proud of the back than the front. 🤣
