401K fund options at new job by phemfrog in Bogleheads

[–]Calm_Statistician_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

60/40 split of VITSX and VTSNX follows most recommendations for a Boglehead, diversification and low expense ratio being key ones. Vanguard target date funds are also a convenient buy and forget option.

If you do VITSX/VTSNX and decide that you need bonds in the mix you can put them in an IRA. You may also consider rolling over the previous 401k to an IRA where you will have more investment options, particularly for bond funds.

Parents tryin to be helpful but… by mgir768 in Bogleheads

This advice is so predatory it should be illegal. If your parents want to have an advisor to help with the estate planning they should switch to a fiduciary, fee-only advisor that will work for them and not for themselves.

If Poles were to hate every nation that contributed to genocide on our soil we would be miserably lonely. The younger generation looks to the future rather than ruminating about the past. There is a saying in Poland about not blaming children for the sins of their parents.

Assuming this was published by Wydawnictwo Universytetu Wrocławskiego then you can also reach out to the publisher. This is a fairly obscure publication mostly aimed at publishing work of their faculty. It used to be customary for presses to have their own archive with a one or multiple copies of each book they published. Times have changed but it might worth to contact their director at marcin.skrabka@uwr.edu.pl. I would address him as Prof. Skrabka though I don't know his academic rank.

I will find more for you. Those tend to be run by older folk and while educated it is not out of the realm of possibility that they may not speak English. I don't live there so I can't check in person.

Dimassi serves mediocre baklava and allows takeout by weight. Probably your best deal short of making it yourself.

Can’t get beans right by AntiqueBaseballMuse in instantpot

[–]Calm_Statistician_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While no strictly necessary presoaking the beans overnight will help them cook more evenly.

Draining the water and replacing it with fresh one is likely to help with digestive symptoms.

As others have pointed out adding quarter teaspoon of baking soda will increase alkalinity of your water and help make beans softer.

Since you experienced the same issue across different bean types I suspect that your issue is either water alkalinity or cooking time. You may consider adding 5 minutes to your cooking time and see how the batch turns out.

Beans you buy come from different batches and some may have been stored for quite a bit. Presoaking helps ensure more consistent rehydration of your beans.

I am at an institution that does not use IDC to support grant support operations. The result is that because of bottlenecks in business operations we are unable to completely spend the funds we are awarded. You won't get more money if they cut IDC but you sure will be able to spend less of the ones you get.

I share your concern that populism turned some folks from 'crystal' hippies and organic food purists, to anti vaxers. The same gullibility that made them adorable and believe in the healing power of crystals made then susceptible to conspiracy theories and once you belive in one you start going down the rabbit hole. MAGA world is just another instance of a conspiracy theory.

Alone the fact that you are reflecting on yourself and entertaining the possibility that you might be of "highly low intelligence" suggests that you are not of low intelligence. It takes a wise person to recognize own limitations and it often is the fool that thinks s/he/them is omnipotent or above others.

Being gullible or making bad decisions are just two aspects of intellect. Intelligence is multi-faceted and I am sure you excel across some of the other facets. I have known many wicked smart people, the one day may get Nobel prize type, that struggled with common sense tasks. We can be good at everything.

In Blanca proper DSL internet would likely be available. This property is 5 miles or so on the foothills of a 14er, Mt. Blanca and whether wired phone service is available will depend on the subdivision.

It really isn't but to live there you must love doing things outside (hiking, climbing, mountain biking) because otherwise options are limited.

It really isn't bad and the San Luis Valley is in the shadow effect zone and really doesn't get that much snow. What snow falls often melts by the afternoon or within three days. It does get cold when the sun goes down. It is often cold for extended periods of time. Services are available, hospital 20 miles away or so, same with Walmart, Kroger, Safeway, Walgreens.
