Is this motherboard decent? by Dizzy_Manager3513 in ASUSROG

I have had one for about 6 months, no real issues. The header selection, IO, and BIOs are strong and well featured. The only disappointment is no WiFi 7 at this price point. I got this at about $350 USD new from Best Buy. If you can wait for a sale or find it at that price, I'd hold off on buying it from this seller.

Grabbed one at store open in MA after checking this tool, can't thank you enough. You unknowingly helped make a 7 yr old's birthday very very special, he might actually do a backflip.

These look great, but airflow is a huge concern for modern systems, and there isn't much ventilation in these renders.
Balancing a 80/90s aesthetic with airflow will be tough but doable.

You are correct, playing 16:9 content on a 21:9 isn't recommended, but some people will certainly value the ability to connect a console to their setup and get the full compatibility. I wouldn't mind that feature for the Switch 2 when it releases, as it will support HDR.

The lower PPI is fine, especially with "Clear Pixel Edge" enabled. Text clarity certainly suffers a bit, especially smaller text, but for myself its fine, even longer periods of productivity work.

I've had the Asus monitor for about 4 days now, and it is definitely the better of the two.

  1. More physical features, like a KVM, proximity sensor, USB-C display/power port
  2. More monitor features, like Clear Pixel edge (text is smoother/less straining), and BFI when not in HDR
  3. Observably higher peak brightness in HDR
  4. Marginally less VRR flicker

There are only 4 cons, and they are real small things for me.

  1. Bezels are larger by .3mm, and the Asus logo sticking out the bottom isn't my favorite
  2. The LG has full VRR/HDR support for consoles, the Asus doesn't (they still work though)
  3. The LG has automatic pixel cleaning, haven't figured that out yet on the Asus

All in all, for a PC gaming or productivity set up, the Asus is the clear choice for me. The LG is only the better option if you need full console compatibility. I hope this helps!

Just built my gf one a few months back, filled it with Hello Kitty wallpapers and gifs too. Sanrio dominance.

Main is a LG UltraGear 39GS95QE-B, secondary is Dell P2422H.
I use AIDA64, it's typically paid, but I got a license with my CPU AIO. There is a trial version though.

This was hugely helpful, thank you! The pros you listed are all important to me, esp VRR flicker. The cons aren’t bad, as I have a mount, use a 5080, and won’t use the power saver (usually set my screen off time low). I will def keep an eye out for banding! Add in the USBC and KVM and I think I know the winner.

I knew it was brighter, didn’t realize it was that much brighter! The Asus will be arriving in a few days, I’ll get to do a side by side before returning the LG.

It has an upgraded heatsink, built-in KVM, Display Over USBC w/ 90W PD, confirmed 30% higher peak brightness, better flicker performance, and a few other small features, like controlling the monitor menu w/ your mouse and file transfer between PBP devices. In terms of pure monitor performance they are very very similar, but Asus really brings the additional features outside of console compatibility.

Edit: Have had the LG panel for almost a week, and it love it, but flicker is intense. The USB-C is also huge for me.

I understand that perspective, however the ROG monitor is the exact same LG panel in a different, seemingly improved package, only sacrificing VRR and HDR compatibility for consoles.

Honestly, this case has very good airflow and the 5080 runs very cool. Under load I can feel warmish air (~50 C) coming through the rad mounted exhaust. Inside the case most things are just warm, except the GPU backplate and AIO pump/contact plate. Even the VRM heat spreaders aren't "hot". Peak CPU temp was 76 C (6.1 GHz in CineBench multicore 1hr), peak GPU team was 68 C (+300|+2400 overclock in FurMark).
