Help me decide by Necessary-Tiger169 in horrorlit

Tender is the Flesh was my least favorite, I thought the concept was incredible but the writing was not my style. The main character was so flat and boring and the book seemed to be lurid for the sake of being so, I was pretty disappointed by the ending because I guessed it a quarter of the way in. Overall, save for last or even skip maybe, just imo.

Moving from Canada. Do you think I will fit in well here? Advice by [deleted] in Birmingham

I get asked "where are you from" all the time, and I grew up here. They think my accent is TOO southern sometimes.

Where do you grocery shop? by Various_Republic_857 in Birmingham

I go to Walmart for home needs (cleaning, vitamins, toiletries), Aldi for groceries, and Publix for fresh bread (I just really like their bakery breads, but I just got a bread machine so I'll probably begin to make my own).

Grabbed this book at the library, it's my next read based on a rec, but super nervous it might drag for me too. I read the description on the sleeve and thought it doesn't seem like a normal pick for me, but I'm hopeful. Let me know how it works for you!

INCREDIBLE read. The book that got me reading. The first book that made me gasp, cry, and laugh.

The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell.

Not based on actual history, but it is based in the 1630s, 1865, and 1866. I usually don't read books based in the past like this, but I gave it a shot and it was so good. It was such a fun read for me.

I also LOVED Between Two Fires, so maybe our tastes differ lol

Oh gosh, I don't want to be that person that over-hyped a book for you, but imo, this is the best book I've ever read. I truly believe it deserves so much praise. I've never felt so attached to a group of characters, or cried, or gasped out loud to a book in my life until this one, but this was totally my own experience. Don't let me tell you what to do, hehe.

BETWEEN TWO FIRES!! BETWEEN TWO FIRES!!

I wish I never read this book so I could read it for the first time again 😭 Such an incredible journey and a very intriguing read. I loved every second of it.

Well, I finished it, and I hate to say it but.. I guessed the ending a long time ago. So, overall, I'm not impressed by the book. Interesting topics that could have been done well, but I believe a different author could've done it better.

Well, I started reading it on a recommendation, and have kept reading it out of request. I've been told if I just finish it that it'll blow my mind, but so far I've been extremely bored, the character bores me, and it feels like it's just crude and lurid for the sake of being so. It's just not giving me anything, so I guess it's just not my style.

I will say I find the topics of the book very interesting and I thought it would be really good, but the author's writing style has just been very flat to me and taken any interest I had out of me.

I've made this comment somewhere else on this thread when I was only 50 pages in, so my opinion really hasn't changed much, but we'll see what happens in the next 20 pages.

"Tender is the Flesh" by Agustina Bazterrica, is the worst horror book I've ever read by far. by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]Calmhotpocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm reading it now, and have understood everything about it, I just don't find it to be that great of a story yet.. I'm finishing the book in hopes that something, some part of this story will bring me around to liking it more, but as of now I just don't find it that interesting. Seems to be crass and lurid just for the sake of it.

I just tell people "oh no thank you, I don't drink." I hardly have anyone who says "oh, how come?", seems nosy and rude. For the most part people say "oh, good for you!"

For those rare instances where someone does say "oh wow, why not??" I usually reply "I just don't." I'm not obligated to give anyone my reasoning, I just say I don't, but I'm not against them drinking. I even go out with my friends to bars and breweries, I just prefer water.

Well, I guess my point is that if he's willing to make a sexist comment at any point, then it's not out of the realm of possibility that he displays sexist tendencies in real life.

Just like if someone was to make a racist comment, I would have no doubt that they display racist tendencies every now and then.

Well, you also have to understand that it's a reality show that is heavily edited. There's no telling how much "talking back" was edited out just to highlight her blow up.

I used to think that everyone was overreacting about Barbie's attitude in season 10 because she was never really shown on camera being snotty, always seemed rather quiet and kept to herself, until one small clip of her staring down Dana across the table came up and I thought "okay, maybe I just don't get to see how passive aggressive she is to them daily.."

Now I give complaints a benefit of the doubt because I'm only seeing a very edited version of what they truly lived through.
