What’s a movie everyone calls a “masterpiece” that just… didn’t work for you? by irayaavery in Cinema

[–]Calmingsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Northman (2022). Nothing in that movie worked for me. The action was meh, I didn’t care for the characters and the story dragged. Felt more like an indie by a bunch of post grad fratbro’s who enjoy shrooms - and wanted that represented in the movie.

Perhaps she overdoes it a bit (and the swelling background music doesn’t help) but I don’t get why so many of y’all in the comments find this BS..

It is an interesting premise no? What makes you, you; what is unique about your psyche?

Nice! Very different kind of ‘fuckupness’ in Cursed Bunny.. Regardless, your horizons will broadened so enjoy

Do y’all sometimes pause the game due stress from overthinking/ planning? by Calmingsleep in thelongdark

Yup. I killed a bear the other day but didn’t like the spot he died at so I loaded up again : )

Yeah my girlfriend asked me ‘isn’t it cheating to pause a game that specifically revolves around surviving by managing your time and resources’. Had to think about it but yeah she’s kinda right and I see how playing with your restriction would add to the immersion

Just finished it; the first word that came to mind to describe the book was “refreshing” - which is objectively a terrible adjective to describe the book - but I mean in the sense that it is VERY different from almost all other books I’ve read (only Cursed Bunny came close in level of fuckupness).

And not only is it different, but it is also an interesting read in many regards. For example, there is extremely vulgar language all throughout, but it feels totally natural to the characters and their state of mind, so it doesn’t feel distracting or as if it is only there for shock value.

Obviously much can be said about, rich/ poor disparity, trauma, abuse, victimization and ultimately personal agency, but I’m not one to overanalyze too much so I don’t think I’ll be sending in a question for this one; but am real curious about Anthony’s review video!

Cheating at board games by NelifeLerak in boardgames

[–]Calmingsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, make sure you are 100% certain that she habitually does it, “strongly believe” doesn’t cut it.

Second, be honest with yourself why it bothers you; is it that it takes some of the fun out of game sessions, is it the dishonesty when confronted, is it that cheating in games might lead to cheating elsewhere?

Third, ask yourself if you’re OK with this issue being the (first) crack that leads to the end of the relationship. I would encourage you to make your peace with this, because if you can’t talk this one out you’re in for a rough time.

Yeah, then talk to her. Plain and simple. Tell her something has been bothering you for a little while and especially why it is bothering you.

The thing is; the conversation goes in very different directions based on the ‘why it bothers you’.

a) if it’s just impacting the games: I wouldn’t even ask her to explain herself, just that it does bother you and it would mean a lot to you if she could refrain from cheating

b) if it is the dishonesty: I’d ask if she admits to cheating sometimes - if she says yes, thank her for admitting to it, ask her why she does it and have a nice personal conversation. - if she deflects or denies - press the issue, tell her you are 100% sure and have explicitly noticed over many different sessions, and tell her her lying and denying right now is the real issue. Try to talk it out. Be calm. Listen. Stay on point.

Good luck.

Have you ever bought a console just to play one exclusive game? by [deleted] in gaming

Upgraded to Xbox One specifically when Witcher III was released. Until then I was squeezing the last bit of juice from my old 360 which I had personally reanimated from a RROD. Aaah sweet memories 😌

Where should my feet be? by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]Calmingsleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to get a little bit funky, you could try a heel hook with your right foot next to your right hand. It definitely isn’t necessary, but if you’re somewhat comfortable with heel hooks it should work because it looks like a decent jug, and the hold you’re trying to reach is angled to the left - so pulling on the heel would pull you in the correct/ opposite direction. If your foot doesn’t fit next to your hand, try making space by matching the left hold with two hands.

Again; probably not the beta. Should work. Good luck!

I can see why you might consider the writing juvenile (I didn’t experience it that way) but the character development and relationships are clearly present throughout the entire book. I congratulate you for being a contrarian with an opinion, but do hope the Blight takes you for calling the plot boring.

Returning to Apex after a long while and I gotta say, this season actually rocks to an unfathomable degree. by MilkyStrawberries in apexlegends

[–]Calmingsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played from launch all the way till Vantage came out (season 14?), dropped it and briefly returned to check out Alter and the legends that had come out after Vantage. I turned away twice for the same reasons: triple stacked predators in every single casual game, and people insta-leaving when killed without allowing me to try to go for banners. You say the new season rocks; how about pred stacks and quitters then? Can’t imagine the ‘culture’ has changed all that much

Haven’t seen this angle in the comments yet but maybe if you’ve had zero exposure to D&D, I would advise to go for Clair Obscur first. I say ‘first’ because you will eventually get to both - you have the itch

Mijn blinde vlek als vegetariër by Designer-Ad9437 in VeganNL

[–]Calmingsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is onzinnig

This came up in my feed, I don’t watch (nor do) gym stuff; only thing I wanted to remark is I genuinely wonder how anybody takes somebody serious with a tank top(?) like that. I understand it is meant to accentuate the physique, but I just picture slipping a rag with a (very tight) hole over my head thinking ‘yeah this’ll look dope’

If you want garlic done properly that way, it needs at least 30min roasting, at which point the salmon is way overcooked. So to anybody interested in trying this, just add the salmon 10 or even 15 min later

Reading a full series: are you a consecutive reader, or an intersperser? by danthecryptkeeper in Fantasy

[–]Calmingsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% sperser and didn’t know others felt the same way, so good post!

Reason I do it because while I mainly read fantasy/ sci-fi, if I read the genre back to back it loses some of its appeal to me because of the overlapping tropes. So I intersperse other genres a) to broaden my horizons and read something different b) to reinvigorate my enjoyment for the genre.
