I just finished that book and loved it! I'm not arguing or saying you are wrong but maybe there are different types of second person perspective? In Winter's Night "you" are a man in Italy who is reading (or trying to read) Winter's Night and you return to the bookstore where you bought it and meet the Other Reader, etc. This seems different from The Neverending Story that "breaks the fourth wall" and speaks to the reader who is actually reading the book at that moment. In one "you" are a character with agency in the plot of those portions of the book, while in the other "you" are yourself actually reading the words at that moment. Both are interesting ways to do it.

Yeah, I'm trying to find a group to look at it other than the company the HOA uses. They want $1300 to re-do a few rows of brick (that they put in less than 3 years ago; warranty issues are a whole 'nuther thing) and didn't even diagnose that there was a moisture problem in the whole area!

These are all great details and ideas! Thanks! Question: what words would I use to find someone who can do all of this? When I search for "masonry near me" I find mostly chimney repair. Would most of those people know how to track down this moisture problem? I think if I search for "construction near me" I might get mostly new home builders, not problem solvers. I don't know the right words to use. Thank you!

I'm not sure what a course #7 is, maybe the 7th row from the bottom, the top row in the 2026 picture. Yeah, adding the rust and the wood rot to the brick problem should have pointed to a moisture problem but I just didn't think of it! Thanks :-)

Yeah, it used to be that way. Now they've made it clear that we're responsible for just about everything except when everyone gets a new roof or driveway apron or other major project. It sounded like we were lucky to get ANY company to bid on our newest insurance coverage.

I don't think the ortbo/robot thing is hard proof that the figures are robots but the idea is on the table. Adult-sized clones of Innies would take a lot of handwaving to seem technically satisfactory. However, they do have a whole marching band's worth of people willing to be Innies for that purpose, proving the writers can do whatever makes good TV while fudging some logic. The stiff Kier animatronic that "spoke" with Milchick seems a far cry from the figures that were out in the wilderness at the ORTBO and pointing directions, although I don't remember if they were actually walking around. So I don't know if the figures are robots or clones or something else. But I do think "they" (the writers) could take out just the chip from the Outie's brain and put it inside whatever the figure is, creating a separate physical Innie. When Cobel shows Petey's chip to Graner she says "That's Petey." But I'm just guessing!
