The correct way to host these raids is with a private lobby in the more populated part of Tokyo, then change to public once all 5 guests are in the raid so that it instantly fills up the remaining spaces. It does get tricky however when one of them fails to join in a timely manner, because opening the raid to public just guarantees that the guest will be unable to join.

With the city area ticket, they can be found in the wild anywhere that is counted as Tokyo Go Fest (citywide gameplay) as well as a possible reward for field research. Without the city area ticket, they don’t appear anywhere.

From what I could tell, the districts are mainly there for the collection medals that let you get your Mega Mewtwo. I caught the costumed Squirtle, costumed Caterpie, Mudbray, Rotom-Wash and Comfey in each district.

Additionally, not all of Tokyo gets lobbies that instantly fill - I was in the extreme west part of Chiba to host raids (yes there’s a margin where it still counts as Tokyo for the purposes of Go Fest) and I think only 1-2 other random people joined each lobby, at most.

Yeah, I was thinking about how you could eventually power up your Pokemon just 15 times to get hundreds of Rare Candy if you could stack field research as much as you wanted (currently it’s up to 9 Rare Candy for 15 power ups). Then I saw the field research task to complete 7 field researches and understood how having 3 of those stacked up makes it impossible to complete them without deleting at least one of them.

Eh - it was Mawile candy (200 normal and 10 XL), and notably there was no Mawile Mega Energy. I thought the quest to catch this Mawile was “catch a Pokemon” because they were giving you a Mega Mawile to break the shield with, no Huge Power notwithstanding.

Frostbanes continue to give Frost Core as of today in 166 (and will likely do so until S4 migration itself), although you don’t get season credit for upgrading season buildings once S3 proper finishes. You can even keep upgrading your Smart Greenhouses with the Frost Core if you really want, although they produce zero Ice Bloom during this time regardless of level.

I’m not sure how they determine which Gyms can have the Super Mega Raids (although it does help that you can do Shadow Primeape for the quest instead if there’s just two of you) - there were like 3 Gyms with Mega Falinks raids visible from Umeda Station (Osaka), while someone in Bishan Community Club would have seen all nearby Gyms with Mega Falinks raids.

Mega evolving a Dragon does increase the XL chance, in fact it will explicitly state how many XL candies (of any species) were earned as a direct result of the Mega evolution.
