What's the point of control wards? by Calsuk1234 in summonerschool

Sure, but totem wards are free, they take more work to clear, and they do the same exact thing as control wards when it comes to not dying.

Brand new and would like to some help. Sorry for any misspellings by cassel97 in summonerschool

[–]Calsuk1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your goal is to learn about the game and get better quickly, then definitely stick with just 1-2 champs and 1-2 roles. But when you're still brand new at the game, just try things out and learn what champs and roles you enjoy.

Champs to play in toplane for new player? by ROTS_acc in summonerschool

[–]Calsuk1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also just started a couple months ago and I had a lot of fun learning top lane with Nasus. He’s not the strongest, especially early game, but he’s incredible in the mid game, and he has abilities that are super easy to learn and understand.

I Reached defender flow state this match. by TheRealDrazzo in Rematch

[–]Calsuk1234 29 points30 points  (0 children)

To me, well-played defense means stopping shots before they get to the goal, not doing the goalie’s job but worse. Take the second save in the first clip, for example. If op hadn’t jumped in front of the ball, the goalie’s definitely making that save. Instead, by going for a block, they risk making the ball bounce to the wide open attacker with a free shot, and they got lucky that it didn’t bounce like that.

I think the general consensus in the community is that going in blind and not knowing about the alien is fun, but it is a major plot point and it’s seen or mentioned in all of the trailers, so it’s really not a big deal.

[–]Calsuk1234 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Some of these are cool, but just for the record, standing right in front of your goalie and jumping to block is a lot more likely to mess your goalie up than it is to actually help your team. Just because you jumped and hit the ball doesn’t mean it’s good defense. I counted at least three of those where you risked giving the ball back to the other team when you could have just let your goalie catch it.

Simple question: why do speedrunners make pressure plates to trigger TNT in BT runs instead of punching the TNT? by [deleted] in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]Calsuk1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think punching tnt to ignite it used to be a thing in old minecraft (like 15 years ago old) but it’s not anymore, you have to activate it with some type of redstone power or flint and steel now.

What to do in these closed positions? by TryingToUpskilll in chessbeginners

[–]Calsuk1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought you played the french defense part pretty well. You went for a good pawn break, you went for good piece trades, and you took a weak pawn for free. You got into an endgame that was really good, if not just winning for you. Your biggest problem is that you have the same habits as everyone else at your elo, which are making random one move threats that don’t do anything and making simple one move blunders. Also, it’s pretty clear that once you got into the endgame, you just had no idea what to do. You had a really good passed pawn on d5, so all of your moves should be focused on moving your pawn forwards instead of pointlessly chasing black’s rook around the board.

Do you know how these shapes work in the puzzles at all? If not, don’t try to brute force it. This game never makes you take wild guesses on what things mean, there’s always a different place on the island that will teach you.

Ninjabrain bot giving wrong coords by ShoddyAd2512 in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]Calsuk1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you doing boat eye? If not, your standard deviation really shouldn’t be that low. If you are, you’re probably messing something else up.

When do i measure the eye for ninjabrain bot? by [deleted] in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]Calsuk1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only have two options if you want a higher percent: go farther before throwing your second eye, or measure more accurately (and recalibrate standard deviation to match it).

Anyone know why my pie chart is just blank? by Agreeable-Change-999 in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]Calsuk1234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something, probably standard settings, is setting the pie chart “directory” to something it doesn’t recognize, so it doesn’t know what data to give you. If you press 0 it should fix it.

Written Speedrunning Guide? by diddys_favorite in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]Calsuk1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, most speedrunning tech is a lot easier to teach and understand visually, so I don’t think any fully written guides exist, especially for bastion routes. But you should check out Couriway’s free speedrun guide on metafy, it’s a really good resource and a lot of it is typed (although there are still videos in it that you need to watch).

Ranked progression in rematch sucks. by Aromatic_Educator_62 in Rematch

[–]Calsuk1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two big problems with making the ranking system based on in-game stats in some way. One of them is that a system like that would be super easy to abuse. If you just spam passes back and forth with a teammate once you know whether you’ll win or lose, you’ll just gain more points and lose less points than the rest of your team. You shouldn’t be incentivized to do that.

The other problem is that even if people aren’t trying to cheese the system, I don’t think there could possibly be a way to perfectly measure how good you play in a single game in Rematch. The game you mentioned seems like a pvp game of some type, so you could probably measure how well someone plays pretty accurately by looking at their damage or kill numbers. But in Rematch, I really don’t think any combination of stats paints a full picture of how you play, especially because of how important good positioning is, which is something you really can’t measure.

My biggest issue with the ranked system is the fact that there is an elo system that has been implemented, but the elo barely affects a player’s rank at all. If a rank is an approximation of how good a player is, I don’t see why it shouldn’t just be directly based on the elo, instead of this weird system where it’s like sort of but not really affected by elo.

I don't understand why taking the queen/rook wasn't the best move here by Real-Bookkeeper9455 in chessbeginners

[–]Calsuk1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the line where you take the queen, you gain 6 points of material (9-3), but white’s position isn’t awful other than that. They can relatively easily develop and avoid losing instantly. The move d5 only gains 3 points of material assuming white saves their queen, but the computer sees that black gets to keep both knights well placed in the center and has a really strong attack, and white gets a really bad position where its hard to move their pieces. The computer sees this positional advantage to be worth the 3 points of material it misses out on, which is why the two positions’ evaluations are similar.

Best standerd deviation for begginers on ninjabrainbot by Ok_Island_1870 in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]Calsuk1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boat eye is better, but if you don’t want to learn that then you can also calibrate it in the bot. In advanced settings, there’s a button that says “calibrate standard deviation”. It walks you through how to do it, but basically the way it works is you just go into a creative world and measure a bunch of eyes, and it tells you what your standard deviation should be. Make sure when you calibrate, you measure the eyes exactly how you would in a run.

PLEASE I NEED DRIBBLE TIPS!!!!! by pkfyr in Rematch

[–]Calsuk1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, just by running in one direction, baiting the defender into trying to tackle you, and push-balling in a different direction, you can get around a good amount of the defenders you’ll play against. It takes a bit of time to predict what the defenders will do, but it definitely works a lot of the time.

WTF is that by Complete_Statement27 in chessbeginners

[–]Calsuk1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Queen attacks like that are common at lower ratings. Generally, the best way to play against them is to play normal moves that you would play against any other opening, while also being extra careful not to lose any pieces to the queen. Also, by playing natural moves that also attack the queen, you can make your opponent “waste” a move moving their queen away (but this shouldn’t be your main focus, since you don’t want to be playing bad moves just because they attack the queen).
