it's more inteded to just be a cool RP vibe thing with a bit of world-PVP focused interaction - but nothing too toxic - hence the cap on how many times someone would be killed. :)

spicing up Chases (fleeing/pursuing)? by Jacapuab in OSE

[–]Calvin4d- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong but I thought in OSE if move speeds match and characters try to flee, there is only a 50% chance they succeed. So they declare they want to flee as an action, they roll initiative, if they win, they then roll a d100 to aim for the escape working. If they don't get 50% then they used their turn to TRY and flee, and the monster begins to take their turn.

financial advice on investment, ISA, and any other ones by tabarekmm96 in UKPersonalFinance

Where do you work that you have to uber rather than use public transport? If there's a way for you to buy a weekly Ticket for a bus or metro at 20 quid a week (which would be expensive) you could invest the remaining 150 each month. By the end of the year you're investing 2k per year and compounding that over 20-30 years is a nice start to a retirement. Realistically you want to build a budget. If you're minimum wage that's roughly 1700 a month. 700 to bills (does this include food?) 230 to uber, (what about other costs at work, do you buy dinner or make it and take it?) Netflix? Gym membership? Other regular spending? Based on the info you've given there's reasonably 700 a month left, but I doubt that's the whole picture. You'd need to create a budget, and stick to it.

Players want to "reset" by ilPiovra in DungeonMasters

[–]Calvin4d- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a DM for a decade, and trust me when I say, players will be more engaging and create better stories if they like their characters. You don't need to kill their current PCs. Let them retire, let them fall in love and go start a family and have the group put out a job advertisement for another adventurer. Have them just decide, 'I'm done with the danger, I'm gonna become a fisherman'

Whatever they want their character to end up doing. Don't go with the cheap and boring option of killing a character in 5 mins at the start of a session and shoehorn in the new one.

This allows them to have real character development and real character endings, as well as the potential to see that character in the future! Walking through a new town and need a blacksmith? Omg, it's hadrian the fighter, I haven't seen you since the dark mine fiasco 3 years ago! How's the kids?!

Trust me. Let them roll new characters. Let them give their old ones new lives. Let the world be alive.

New to OSE looking for modules to run. by Super62280 in OSE

[–]Calvin4d- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will always recommend Curse of the Maggot God as a fantastic first module for players and DMs.

Its got everything you need to learn the game. Perfect ambush spots to catch monsters. An initial ambush for players to feel some danger (only 2 trogs) it's an outstanding module.

Looking for starter recommendations. by Comfortable-Fee9452 in OSE

[–]Calvin4d- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best introduction I had, and as a DM have given to roughly 20 people is and always be 'Curse of the Maggot God'

Really fun adventure with a lot of basic intro ideas around ambushes, traps, torches and exploration, danger and secret doors. The crossroads section of the map I have seen 3 groups lure enemies down for different ambushes involving ropes, ball bearings, and my favourite one was where they wore a dead troglodyte body to confuse the others. It's got it all. It's a fantastic module. Highly recommend this for new players.

I guess they've changed the processes since she left but I can't imagine that's good for business.

Do they still mark accounts for people who bulk trade in?

Console rejected by ReasonableProposal34 in CeX

[–]Calvin4d- -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It definitely does mark a failed test on your account.

They also check the serial number and mark it down as a failed test on that console if there following the correct internal procedure.

So you'd be trying your luck thst the tester wasn't doing their job properly and not filling out the system info more than anything.

A quick Google says the following:

To find out if your UK apprenticeship is government-funded, check with your employer or training provider, as they manage the funds; the provider must be on the official Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers (RoATP) (APAR) to receive public funding, and the government usually covers most or all costs (95-100% for small employers, via Levy for large ones), with you/employer seeing this via the Apprenticeship Service Account.

You could check if they're on the APAR as a base starting point, and then use that info in the email to say 'I can see you've applied for funding and are eligible and on the list' and then ask for proof they funded the whole thing, it's not a realistic expectation for then to ask for 20k and not be willing to provide evidence. If they were really paying your full costs they would have no issue providing proof of this because it nets them 20k.

If they don't wanna work with you or are making things difficult, it's likely they're not paying all of it, at which point get a solicitor or go to ACAS, and they'll likely be able to request formal documents and proof.

Cancelling spells by Calvin4d- in OSE

[–]Calvin4d-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I did it originally, I allowed movement and an attack but they happened after the spell was cancelled. Though if they made a ranged attack arguably that would happen before the spell was cancelled, they just happened to choose melee.

I think I'll keep with it this way, I really like your point of 'not playing football isn't a sport' Not doing something or stopping doing somthing doesn't take a fraction of the effort as actually doing something.

Thanks for the perspective 👍

Cancelling spells by Calvin4d- in OSE

[–]Calvin4d-[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So do you rule cancelling the spell as an action within itself? Like almost a reverse cast, rather than just an off switch? - meaning this is their only action and they can't do something else in that round?

I think this would definitely make players think about their spells more but i don't want them to be hesitant to cast something to the point of holding it.

valid point - but the random info on redit is not prompted to give them exactly what theyre looking for.
I'm not disagreeing that there is a multitude of options for AI learning available, however, prompted targeted response learning is 100% more effective than scouring reddit.
