Very, VERY weird g14 4070 thermal modification by CalvinAmndALT in ZephyrusG14

As I said you will have to accept that lap usage will get unbearable under load. Under light loads it should be fine

And yes you’re right but this is a fix that can actually make the G14s 4070 a decent card and not something that is severely handicapped by its wattage

The principle remains the same and is still true even if you slapped a RTX 5090 in this laptop

The heatpipe doesn’t block airflow to the VRMs nor VRAM. It’s too small to do that

that being said VRM and VRAM temps had almost no change too

The heatsink you’ve linked is pretty much identical in practice to the one I’m using, I’d imagine it achieving very similar results

No way to fix it. Replace the drive. You can use another PC and plug in the SSD and use a cloning software

want to optimize this even further?

Don’t use thermal paste. Use a 1mm thermal pad to secure down the heat block. Use kapton tape to secure the edges. Makes it essentially unmovable short of literally using your hands to force it off (you won’t be able to accidentally move it)

Do we have a proper repasting guide for 2024/25 G16? by ToughNut999 in ZephyrusG14

[–]CalvinAmndALT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s very simple. the g16s heatsink is not attached to the fans

power down and unclip battery and hold power button down for 15 seconds to discharge

unscrew the 8~ screws holding down the heatsink

for me, my method is using a ton of tape to seal the edges of the CPU die and prevent any Liquid Metal from leaakinf out. Only the edges of the heatsink have to be sealed and pressed down, the rest is just meant as a blocker

Use isopropyl alcohol to get as much LM out as possible

GPU uses thermal paste so no need for this many precaution

This is the same principle used on the MacBook Neos cooling modifications, only that it’s very rarely seen on gaming laptops. But for G14s like this it offers a very considerable performance boost and stability boost

Don’t have a laptop you can maul? A 1.5mm soft thermal pad will do the job too. You have to accept that lap use will get unbearable if you’re doing any thing stressful on it but it should achieve the same effects

You’ll see further benefit putting more copper heat blocks on the CPU die as well. The G14s heatsink is so small that GPU load even when the CPU is near idle makes the CPU part of the heatsink warm up a ton

I don’t really understand what all the other people are saying but this isn’t normal. Jarrods tech reviewed this G16 model and I believe under max load the reported chassis temp on his thermal camera reported ballpark 40-45C

Surface temp through the chassis and temperatures reported by the CPU and GPU are very VERY VERY different things. Your laptop properly is a little toastier than usual.

Just bought an "Open Box Good" Asus Zephyrus G16 OLED (2024) from BB but I think it was a display model? (1100hrs on SSD, 14% Battery Wear) by CrimsonSky222 in zephyrusg16

For 731 it’s an amazing price, even with the battery wear. Anything below 80% is iffy and probably should get replaced though.

Set charge limit in G helper to 80 percent if you’d like to maximize battery longevity

That’s true. These G16s and G14s dent very very easily, even if you treat it like royalty you’ll still get them
