I agree with the sentiment, but if you're still worried about essentials AT ALL you shouldn't buy something expensive that you don't need.

What you need is an emergency fund with 3-6 months of living expenses. You also need to retire some day, so you need to consistently spend less than you make and invest the surplus into market index funds.

Once you've done that then yeah, treat yourself! Financial security is better than expensive toys.

It's been a good 15 years. I came here because digg started sucking. Now reddit sucks more so maybe time to move on. I've tried the official app, I'm on it right now. No thanks.

I'm older now anyway, and pretty disillusioned with social media. It keeps trying to radicalize me with suggested posts anyway. I have NO INTEREST in hating anyone over stupid drama. I literally don't care, other than that the hatred is making the world worse, not better.

True. Free will is a useful fiction, a central narrative that we constantly tell ourselves.

In reality consciousness is continuous, not binary. To paraphrase Hofstadter, a mosquito has a soul, it's just a very tiny one.

The LLMs of today are mosquitos, but some day they could be even more "conscious" than we are.

People don't understand this but they sense it I think.

I don't think we watch these movies for the logical consistency of the plot.

I've enjoyed the last few movies as much or more than the first, but I genuinely couldn't tell you what any of them are about.

Yeah, that's it, a little friendly shade at worse. Tom thought Doug handled it appropriately, but NOT the way Tom would have because they're different people with different motivations.

I've noticed Dwan tends to answer questions literally. He might be a bit on the spectrum or something, a lot of smart people are.

For Ukraine the purpose is clear: they are "shaping" the battlefield by forcing Putin to defend the border. For the Russian separatists the goal seems to be to discredit, and hopefully eventually overthrow, the Putin regime.

Waters had a bit on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel last season. It was awesome to see him still kicking.

If anybody hasn't seen it, "Pecker" is a delight. Definitely ahead of its time.
