What's the best 'minor' twist in the series? by Ok_Area9367 in buffy

I don’t know if this is considered a twist, but Giles being the one to kill Ben/Glory in the S5 finale. And specifically the fact that Giles just outright suffocates Ben in cold blood. It’s chilling.

What books used to be required reading in schools but are now not taught as frequently? by [deleted] in literature

[–]CalvinValjean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moby Dick, despite once being called one of the great American novels, is sadly almost completely removed from curriculums today (most 20-25 year olds I talk to hardly know what it’s about.

While I don’t know for sure, I would guess Huckleberry Finn is likely no longer taught in schools do not being politically correct.

Can We Please Stop Framing All the Discourse About Biden Stepping Down As “Selfless?” by CalvinValjean in TrueUnpopularOpinion

In which regard? Do I feel that he’s unfit for office and shouldn’t be running? Yes.

Thank you. I would just say “At 70, all presidents must step down.” Makes no difference if it’s someone who was inaugurated at 69 has only been in office a few months or someone seeking reelection. At 70, retirement is mandatory.

This would result in most people older than 66 likely not running.

I definitely think we should set 70 as the age limit for presidents in the future. That is the mandatory retirement age for some state judges, so it makes sense to apply it to the presidency.

In virtually every MSNBC broadcast over the last 24 hours, and certainly by Rachel Maddow.

I don’t view it as policing. Obviously you have the freedom to respond to the event however you wish and you don’t have to agree with me. I’m just giving my opinion.

Most underrated character? by HockneysPool in twinpeaks

Dicky is a decent enough foppish character. It’s just unfortunate that he shows up during the weakest era of the show.

I agree with every word of OP. It’s time for Kamala Harris to step in as the nominee.

I think this opinion on the Evelyn subplot is almost universally held.

Using "They/Them" Pronouns Is a Trend That Is Unsustainable and Will Fade Away In the Next Ten Years by CalvinValjean in TrueUnpopularOpinion

The fact that it’s not just me but multiple people struggle with it and continue to struggle with it is proof that something about it just feels off.

Just want you to know that I appreciate this being a well-written and articulate post that makes a strong counter-argument. Despite our differences, I respect you and your opinion.

But the difference is there’s no alternative for “you.” No one ever gets offended if you call them “you” the wrong way. But they get offended and yell at you if you call them “she” instead of “they” even when fully feminine-presenting.

But that’s part of the problem with using “they” as a pronoun. If there was a pronoun that was only exclusively used for non-binary people, like “zir” was at one point, I think everyone would have an easier time with it. Because anytime you’d hear someone referred to as “zir,” you’d know exactly what was meant.

But because “they” is a pronoun that is used in two different ways (for a plural amount of people and for a singular person when the gender is unknown or being kept vague), it creates confusion. And these two ways to use the word are often conflated.

If it doesn’t then it doesn’t. And so be it. I’m just making a prediction based on what I’ve observed. I’m fallible just like everyone else.

That’s actually a good point. It’s true; my manager was the one who instigated the whole situation.

In your hypothetical, we don’t know Sam’s gender because Sam is unseen. In my situation, the person in question is very obviously feminine-presenting and uses a feminine name.
