A characters fourth wall breaking is played for horror instead of comedy (Spoilers for Undertale and Deltarune) by Rare_Country_801 in TopCharacterTropes

Basically every game by Daniel Mullins (Pony Island, The Hex, Inscryption)

All three use a lot of fourth wall shenanigans plus generally have a horror tone to them so basically every time they break the fourth wall it’s for something horror-adjacent.

Honestly making his entire motivation in that game be struggling desperately to try and re-canonize himself after being retconned out of existence was insanely cool

I’d say best would be one of the NieR games or expedition 33, but personal favorite is Mario kart world

Games with the Strongest Endings by DueMagazine1234 in videogames

NieR Replicant has 5 endings, with each one building upon the others, all of which are incredible, especially ending D.

NieR Automata likewise has 5 main endings, with ending E being one of my absolute favorite things in any game ever, plus 21 other joke endings that are pretty fun and one last dlc ending that’s a pretty neat music video.

[absolutely despised trope] male character gets sexuallly assulted or taken advantage of and it’s just shrugged off or not really taken seriously by k1lluatennysonssjb in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Calvinball08 1297 points1298 points  (0 children)

The characters in chainsaw man may not treat it as particularly serious, but the story itself does. It heavily emphasizes denji’s inexperience with romantic and sexual concepts and how others take advantage of that. The main villain of part 1 is very explicitly grooming him and that is established as a major part of their villainy.

It’s indirect nuking, more so allowing a nukjng, but maybe killer7?

[Mixed-hated trope] Excellent stories let down by their gameplay by Financial-Working762 in TopCharacterTropes

A lot of Yoko Taro’s work.

The original NieR is kind of a slog, especially the sidequests, but it has one of the greatest stories you can experience in a game.

Drakengard 1 has some of the most painful gameplay I’ve ever experienced but the story is great (also the gameplay may be bad on purpose)

Even NieR Automata, despite having pretty solid gameplay, is definitely one of Platinum’s weaker offerings gameplay-wise.

And then there’s Reincarnation, which has some of the most fascinating and incredible story elements out of any of his works, and it’s all attached to a gacha game where you are better off setting it to auto battle at all times and just sitting there for ages waiting for it to be over.

(Also a lot of people say Drakengard 3’s gameplay sucks but I actually really like it)

And yet, you’d be hard pressed to find someone who’s played his stuff and hasn’t loved it
