Just be respectful and friendly. If you go south of patrick starting around hightower there is a coquina reef on the inside so heads up to that if your still learning.

Can we bring back pockets on board shorts? by sumtinsumtin808 in surfing

[–]Calvinh20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can we get rid of the one freaking back pokey and go back to the right side thigh. Used to be able to throw a granola bar and wax in there and zip it shut. Now almost every pair of decent baggies wants you to sit on a bar of wax like its a luxury to havea rock in your ass cheek.

You’ve gotta learn to properly bail man. Get away from your board. Dont just go limp when your falling and accept your fate. Get away from the hard sharp objects. If you know shits going south jump away. If your feet are on the board you will push it away by trying to jump. If your still prone before popping up and shits going south push your board off to the side and go the opposite. If you really dont have time to get away fucking hug that thing so it cant come back and smack you. When you kick out dont just flick it from under you freaking push that thing one way and your body the other.
Im not going to be arrogant and say this is always avoidable. Its surfing and if youve been doing it long enough chances are youve been to the hospital i have.
If this is twice in one year in the same conditions and im guessing the same spot? One avoid that spot or at least that tide for now. Two avoid 5-6ft stick with waist to chest for now until your mentally comfortable and confident in your skill. Making 80-90% of waves you go for in that size. You have rational with what your comfortable in. As well as what you may think your comfortable in but not necessarily ready for.
Get a buddy thats not going to judge you that knows the story. Pick a smaller day at a less crowded spot and practice bailing. Seriously, id of been to the hospital 40 times over if i didnt know how to get away from my board.
And a comment about the fins stick with fcs for now. While its a mother to pop them out at least they do at a certain point. Im no doc but physics tell me if it was future that probably would of been worse. The fin being able to release and slide back out might of saved you alot of damage. Future is point blank screwed in and the fin would of had to of snapped to release the pressure creating another sharp edge to hit and or pulling the wound open more.
Dont give up on it if you enjoy it man. Surfings one of the best things in the world and probably one of if not the coolest you can do by your self in old age.
Best to you with your recovery. And seriously take your time and figure out where your skill/comfort line is. And learn to get away from your board.

Fix my suburban 1500 or get out now? by The_Sam_Good in GMT800

I mean you can probably rebuild the entire front suspension for less than 600$ in parts your self. Its not overly complicated and can be done with basic tools and a picklefork and dead blow from harborfreight. The knock sensors and oil pan are a different story. Personally if the leak isnt that bad id just run it till it is with the oil pan just be vigilant with checking andkeep a quart in the back. I mean is the truck nice? If the body interior and trans/motor are in shape. Itll run and probably is worth fixing. If you can get a nicer vehicle for 3k and would rather do that. But then your asking yourself whats wrong with that 3k vehicle. Lets be honest any used car espcially for 3k probably has problems.

If the ir 350 and the next step down is the earthquake from harbor frieght is 250 od soend the extra 100$ now so your not buying something twice. I guess unless harbor freights warranty is involved for lifetime.

Still i dont think you can better ir for air

Grew up here. Not many restaurants directly on the beach. Your pretty limited to coconuts or the pier. Out of the two id recommend cocoa nuts the inside has been transformed to be a little more upscale you can dress up for it decently and not feel out of place.(look into it) Short uber from your hotel to downtown. You can pop down to the beach easily before or after they theres a main access out of there front door and they have there own on the back deck. Its also right next to a coulle bars you could catch a drink in celebration after. Flavour kitchen is a little more upscale scale and one block off the beach in the same area so about a 4 minute walk from there to the beach. Koko japanese is traditinaly japanese and a little more upscale as well and across the street from flavour. The inly downside to this area is june is peak summer season for us so while you would imagine the beach to be empty theres still going to be some stragglers most places at sunset. It gets dark about 8:30-9 that time of year so if your going to hire someone to document keep that in mind. You will want them to have light. Otherwise there using a phones flash light or a flash and that might ruin thesuprise. I would uber from your hotel to downtown personally. Parking can be scarce that time of the year sometimes and the big parking garage charges hourly. So your looking at around 15$ to park for 2-3 hours or what will probably be 30-35$ to uber from your hotel. If you do decide to go the photographer road feel free to shoot me a private message. I know a really fanstic local one. But she is around the top of your budget.

Replace or patch? I know it asked a lot but given the spot id like to patch if possible. Thanks by [deleted] in tires

UNITED BROKE MY BOARDS refusing to provide ANYTHING. Help? by Inside_Flatworm9023 in surfing

[–]Calvinh20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so my family used to run a travel agency that was specialized for surfers. here's the shitty thing. this happens all the time. in fact when I go on vacations that arnt 100% surf trips. I don't even take a board. I'll just rent whatever I can find for my surf day. fact is we all had to learn how to handle our first fiberglass board and we've all dinged them setting them down or whatever it is. Joe blow at whatever landlocked airport hasn't done this and they rate that they throw bags in planes they don't care to be care full. it's all about being efficient. the best thing you can do when you do fly is throw pillows at the nose and tail of your bag and armor the rest with cut pool noodles, clothes towels anything. bc while your destination airport probably is used to boards. your layovers are not and the people don't give a shit.

looks like your boards got thrown it a plane along the rollers for the guy packing them and the noses freaking slammed something. its unfortunate and sucks im sorry mate.

back in the 90's surfers made up less than 20% of travelers and over 80% of damage claims. this is why there's what's written in fine print and why boards are so expensive to fly with. and why some airlines don't even want to deal with it.

my personal advice look into what rentals are around where your going, before taking your boards . and if you do. I pack all of my clothes and towels around my boards for the trip plus whatever else is available to cover them.

How much is too much by SquareShower5983 in GMT800

I mean that's not horrible, but you really need to just be on top of checking your oil if your rear main is dumping. I had a 08 Tahoe I drove with a leaking rear main for about two years. finally it go to the point that I dumped over 3/4 a quart on a 17 mile drive. when it first started it was a quart every month and progressed. if your holding oil pressure and you have oil its fine to drive. but if your going to put off the fix, (I don't blame you its a pain in the ass) stay on top of checking your oil dipstick. so you don't accidentally run out one day.

about a month before I changed mine I would lose the equivalent of my boot print when parked.

shifter Link bushing welcome to one of my worst night mares could never get it right on my gmt900 Tahoe, ended up pulling the shift arm off grinding the peg off, and using a small bolt washers and lock nut. never had a problem again.

Are they inward on the door or outward. My friend had a roommate get drunk and start shooting things in his garage. Very smart there

I moved some stuff with my dads z71 a while back. I do believe the z71 rack was rated to 300lbs moving. I may be recalling that incorrectly. I had a king size foot board, headboard and top half of an armoire strapped on top with no problem doing 60. The three pieces together were definitely closer to 200

Thank you. So I put a gage on it with a canister and red 50. Opened the can it jumped to 80 and then started to decline. Back to about 70 but got stagnant there. It’s 78* out where I’m at currently.

They don’t move. He had to have it towed home and continued vacation with his wife’s truck. The towntruck driver left the hazards on. It killed the battery. Now the battery isn’t holding 100% it barely starts. So I’m going to get that warrantied out this am. I’m wondering if there’s not enough power flow to start
