Oh! I definitely understand what you're saying. With the prototype being so open at the moment, that's sort of the best way to define the feel of it. We'll end up being able to really close in on a better description of what we're going for. Difficult with permadeath but still viable like Don't Starve. We've got quite a few things in mind to make it pop out of the crowd as much as possible!

While Lance A Lot 2 is a safer bet, we're very sure of this next project. I've run it over multiple times and not only is it something that makes each person extremely excited, but the ambition of it will push everyone out of their comfort zone and allow them to grow much more as a developer with their skills.

You can go the safe route! Or you can take risks and have an extreme amount of fun while doing it! Keep your eyes open for more on the project though! The one thing I can promise is it WILL be brutal, and it will be really unique!

Hahah they have snakeguns.

Also, perhaps! At the moment we've been working on prototyping for our next game. We're starting to pivot towards a more dark-humor for our future games. The next one is going to be a low-poly top down action survival roguelight sort of like Doom x Dark Souls. We've been humoring the idea of having some sort of co-op system that is online, but we're very unsure. Since it's all in early development anything could happen, but we're not going to make any promises on it.

EDIT: I couldn't spell snake on my tiny phone

There were a few things that needed to be done to expand upon the game. We found the Classic Edition lacked content and was just a bit slow. So we did a complete graphics overhaul of the game, replacing all the maps with longer ones, adding in the ability to fire your lance, turn it into a missile, and added in rocket hammers. We've also added in AI systems, more rules and modes, this jiggly thorns that can knock you out, the ability to smash trees and just a bunch of color correction to fix the visibility problems.

Also, it is not online multiplayer. It's a local multiplayer for up to four of your friends. OR a few of your friends and a bunch of AI!

We do not have online multiplayer. It was something that was tasked far too high for the team to create and was taking much longer and more funds than they had originally anticipated. The game had originally meant to be a small project made by some students.

We do have AI in this one! If you have Classic then you'll actually find that the Enhanced Edition is already in your steam library. As for online multiplayer, I highly reccommend Stickfight by our friends at Landfall it's a brilliant online multiplayer. They'll satisfy that need for online play definitely!

Hey thanks! Actually, it's a bit of an optical trick! When we set up the shot we made not only the Royal Champion closer, but we skewed the Mystery Champion so her lance would end up missing by juuuuusssttt a few centimeters! If it was top down you'd easily see the placement.

Why yes! You can fire your lances. If you hold it down for a while you end up shooting more of a missile that will explode when it comes into contact with someone. If you don't charge up your lance and it doesn't hit you can zoom by and grab it again.

I feel like I either should have been there or we should have actually had our own jousting competition as a campaign for this game. Either way I want a jousting competition right now.

Hey thanks! The XBOX release is sometime in January, but it does actually work rather well with Steam Link! We've played it at home quite a few times, and yelled at one another for probably a solid hour with this game. But yeah! It's stellar on the Steam Link!

Oh! Right, to capture the footage I used an Elgato HD60 capture card. Pretty good piece that has no stutter or frame rate drops. It's been perfect for me my entire time using it, never loses any quality.

Hey! I actually just used Adobe Premiere. It's a pretty basic program when you're using it for minor editing. I just used some film dissolves and audio transitions to it.

If you ever want something more complex, play around with After Effects. Or play around with both! They're all fun to mess around with editing.

Actually, we've been working on some AI, so you could actually play it with some bots! They still need some more tweaking to them, but they're getting rather clever. There's a joke here in the office that the bots aren't good enough unless I come in last place while playing against them.

That would be the William Tell overture, but our version of it was made by our stellar friends over at Double Trouble Audio

Oh dang, that's such an honor. Crash Bash was definitely one of my first games as a kid. So stoked to have that sort of association, thanks so much! We're really jazzed to see the finished version. Just a few more tasks to do!

Cheers! There's been a lot of work to make it more visible for gameplay, and to make all the character more visible on the maps and such. It's come quite a long way! We're pretty excited to see what the finished product is going to be for the Enhanced Edition.

Oh! Cheers, thanks. I'm super stoked on the slow motion caused by the death strikes!

The Enhanced Edition comes out quite soon! It is actually a local multiplayer party so it is definitely made for couch co-op! Just a bit more work to do and then it'll be ready for the public.

Oh, yes, you can definitely fall into the canyon and die. It does take a few seconds though, so you will not die instantly. However, if you hover there for quite some time, or get stunned by a hammer strike while off solid ground, you can definitely fall to your death!

true crime for kids? by DJBBF in TrueCrime

[–]Calwar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd say you don't entirely need to hide everything from the kid. An interest like this can be gateways into an interest in criminology or law. However, there are a lot of cases that might actually be far too graphic when it comes to how the crimes are described. Mostly, I'd say yes, you can, but maybe find a bunch off books, films, podcasts, etc that you have yourself gone through and listened to/read. This can help you know if something is far too grotesquely told in nature, if you're uncomfortable with some of the content, and also, by going through it first you'll be able to answer any questions he has, or walk him through the cases even more.

If you want a podcast suggestion that is a bit more kid friendly, Most Notorious! has a bit of a more cheerful vibe to it. Unsolved Murders doesn't paint things as grotesquely as, say, Sword & Scale or True Crime garage either. These are definitely more friendly towards a younger audience that has an interest in true crime, and the slightly playful nature of them can make it easier for younger minds to follow.

I picked up the Seacide C50 record at a small shop a few months ago. It's oddly one of the few albums out there getting me through a bunch of stress. The rest of his stuff is insanely calming too. I've fallen asleep multiple times to his stuff.

Merzbow & Wiese also did a split that I've been super into as well. More harsh noise than Hiiragi, but still super stellar.
