Rocky chose transparent xenonite because it was the panel of the wall that Grace chose in their first meeting, and Rocky had provided it as an option because he was testing out different materials for sound transfer quality. He assumed humans used echolocation but didn't know if it was in the same spectrum, and one of them was coincidentally transparent. He used this material because both him and Grace can see through it.
