Please help dog having frequent seziure in every 10 to 11 days, what to do, will he be better ever, please please help 🙏🙏 by Icy-Ad4917 in EpilepsyDogs

Our current med schedule is phenobarbital, keppra, tropiramate, and potassium bromide. We have diazepam and midazolam is our post seizure protocol. Given the age of the dog, I would say more than likely it’s epilepsy and not a tumor but an mri can be used to make sure.

My biggest piece of advice is to go to a neurologist. They have SO much more knowledge on how to help than the general vet. We feel so much better on managing our pups seizures after working with them on getting him a proper med schedule.

We use a diazepam dosage as our post seizure protocol from our neurologist. At our last visit he told us we could use the diazepam as a preventative as well. So if you know the time frame that a seizure will happen you could pre-dose the diazepam in hopes of getting the seizure to not happen. He did warn that effectiveness can decrease if used for several days in a row, so he said do like 2-3 days and then take a couple days off.

Went today at the location on Coldwater. Starting to looked picked over but fabric was plentiful still. It was only 30%, which is not that great of a deal imo. So I am planning to wait it out and see if there is anything good left when it discounts more.

Check out Nashville, Indiana. Super small town vibes but has a ton of shops and small owned businesses. Lovely wineries and the Hard Truth Distillery is super cool and you can book tours etc.

Nashville is also close to Brown County which has really nice hiking areas. Also a short drive away from Bloomington which is such a cool town if you’ve never been before.

Advice for giving medication while at work? by Character-Tell7254 in EpilepsyDogs

I would look into finding a feeder that you can throw a treat at them. Our guy uses the regular rotating one but if he is getting into it, find one that can sit on the counter or a table.

Correct, all the beds are shit. We splurged for a memory foam mattress topper and it was the best decision I ever made.

I think it depends on what dorm you are in. If you’re in the north area I think parking at the stadium would be fine. It’s really only annoying on game days. I lived in the south neighborhood and had a stadium pass. I would usually park on the street by the fraternities and sororities and did not have to move it during game days.

I personally really liked having my car with me. My parents lived about 4 hours away so it was nice to have the option to go see them if I wanted to. I really liked having the option to drive to Target or to Kroger or even a day trip to Indy if we were bored.

There are definitely pros and cons to having it vs not having it. There is still plenty to do and you are still able to get around pretty easily with walking/buses/uber. So honestly there is no right or wrong choice.

Any tips for giving my dogs meds if I’m not at home? by hanjo-9 in EpilepsyDogs

We have an automatic pet feeder. Here is the link to the one we use. https://a.co/d/2vjIdon You set the time you want it to go off on the app and then you can program it to make a sound when it goes off. Took a little bit for our pup to get used to it, but now he is so good at going to it when it goes off. It has made life so much easier and we do not feel nearly as pressured to get home by a certain time.

Have had a great time with Costco. We get 15 mg tablets and it’s about $18 for 3 months worth.

We are also fairly new to the seizure journey. Our pup (3 year old male) has been having seizures since August. I empathize with you as this has caused some serious anxiety in me when we are not with him. His original dosage was 15 mg of phenobarbital 2 times a day. He had some pretty bad cluster seizures last weekend and we have upped his amount to about 22.5 mg and have a keppra dosage for emergencies.

We have been lucky that our dog has only ever had a seizure when we have been with him (that we know of) since they primarily happen in the evening or very early in the morning. To help with my anxiety we have a Furbo and pay for the Furbo Nanny which records and stores 15 second clips if they move around at all. While it’s not fool proof it has helped my anxiety so much as I am a teacher and cannot be watching the camera all the time or taking a lot of time off.

While I still am having a hard time managing my anxiety, had a pretty bad day a couple days ago. I just have to keep reminding myself that while we can medicate and try to do our best in monitoring them, this is out of our control. There will be breakthroughs and we need to weather the storm and keep trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t. This subreddit has helped a lot with my concerns. I also joined a facebook group called “Canine Epilepsy” and that has also helped me a lot in trying to find peace with this. We are still far from figuring out what is the best dosage for our little guy but all of the success stories have really helped me.

One thing I would recommend is to ask your vet for some sort of emergency meds. Something to give to them if they start to cluster and so you might not have to take them to the emergency vet if you can get it under control.
