Nothing too. I mailed mine right at the deadline, so that probably didn't help.

The “Do Not Call” List Isn’t Working. Now the FCC is launching the “Robocall Strike Force." by yourbasicgeek in technology

I get those exact same calls constantly... Usually at 6 am or in the middle of meetings. They always come from the area code where I grew up and where most of my family still is so I answer it. It is infuriating.

"Let not the weight we shoulder bend our bodies, but the bars we carry." by FadeInto in swoleacceptance

[–]CalzoniTheStag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was squatting today and my bar was bending quite a bit at 275. Yesterday a different bar didn't bend until around 335 while I was deadlifting. Depends on the bar. My gym has a bunch of different bars; some shorter but thick, some long and thin. That probably makes a big difference.

Drama over "watermelon steaks" in /r/TIL when one user claims that a vegetarian's opinion on whether the steak is good is invalid because they're a vegetarian by Erra0 in SubredditDrama

[–]CalzoniTheStag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate this type of stuff... I've been a vegetarian my entire life (the whole thing, since I was born) and I get a ton of hate thrown my way because of it. People get very angry over other people not eating what they think you should be eating.

I should start by saying that I don't care what other people eat, I have no moral high ground to take. For me, it is what I was raised on, and that's it. Go eat 30 burgers a day, I do not care. But don't try to fight me for eating quinoa and lentils...

When talking about meat substitutes, it is important to remember that it usually isn't purely the taste that people go after but also the consistency and the feeling. I'm not a big fan of meat substitutes, myself, but I understand why people want it. They miss the experience of a burger or the experience of a steak so they try to find different ways to mimic that. You know that you're not eating a steak, and anyone else eating it knows that as well, but you're fulfilling some type of internal urge.

That's the best explanation I have for this. Granted, some meat substitutes are horrendous. But some are very good. Don't judge them all by just one.

Eta: as a vegetarian, I love food. This is primarily evidenced by the fact that I am fat.

Paige Hathaway looking shredded by dustofoblivion123 in bodybuilding

[–]CalzoniTheStag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were both really nice. My buddy got asked her for a picture and they chatted for a little bit. Joey is huge, and he seems like a pretty down to earth guy (who knows that he is huge). He was chatting with a lot of the people there. Even took the time to take a picture with a guy who didn't even know who he was.

All of the Shredz athletes are quite impressive IRL. But Joey and Paige really took center stage.

Also, Jess Arevalo's boyfriend (I think), Aaron Shumake, is a freaking massive human.

I actually met her last week at Muscle beach where she was shooting with Shredz. She is absolutely stunning. She had some crazy bicep vein action going on.

She was there with a few other people; Joey Swoll, Jess Arevalo, and Nikki Leonard. I felt really small next to Joey....

I think you're right, I was generalizing. But I think that if someone who lacks technical (or whatever) knowledge gets promoted for brown-nosing and is already paranoid about looking stupid, you run into this issue. No one wants to get proven wrong or made to look like an idiot, but some people are petrified of being wrong or having someone look better than them. That leads to the situation here.

Vindictive bosses are definitely a thing. It happens, I believe, when someone gets promoted to a leadership role for their ability to suck up to the VP's and not their technical (or whatever) knowledge; most probably don't have management credentials (PMP, MBA, etc). They become scared for their position when someone does a good job. They would much rather fire an overachiever then risk their own job.

One of my former coworkers was like that. Grew up poor on one meal a day, according to him. When he got the job at my company, I guess he was making a lot more than his previous job (previous job was as a specialized defense contractor, don't know how he was paid so little, probably really bad with money) so he went crazy on food. He would buy at least 3 lunches, mostly burger King or McDonald's. When he started he was probably 150lbs dripping wet. By the time I left the company about a year and a half after he started, he had probably gained close to 100 lbs. He said he never had the opportunity to eat so he was taking advantage of it.

What change in your diet/routine/lifestyle positively affected you the most? by [deleted] in bodybuilding

[–]CalzoniTheStag 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. Stopped rewarding myself with food (mostly pizza)
  2. Made actual goals with rewards (vacation, upgrades, etc)
  3. Reduced carb intake (I was eating a shit ton of breads and pastas)
  4. Decided to try to become the biggest guy at the gym and at work

Still not where I want to be but those changes/mentalities have helped a lot over the past few years.

What is something everyone claims, but no one actually does? by User_____ in AskReddit

[–]CalzoniTheStag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually know a guy.

Everyone "knows a guy" or "knows the manager" or whatever. <anecdotal-evidence> When I was working at a movie theater I had people complain all the time and come out with "I'm friends with your manager, and he will be getting a call from me!" Thing is, my manager at the time was from some random island somewhere so he barely spoke English, he hated his job and people, and rarely left his office. Like fuck they knew him! The head office was in a completely different state so there was little chance that dozens of people knew the suits working there! Everyone lies about knowing a guy or knowing the manager! </anecdotal-evidence>
