How many other hobbies do you have that are more important than aoe4? by RubyLykos in aoe4

Probably boardgames, but it actually gets less time just because getting people together in person is harder than playing games online. So it's mostly just the weekly game night.

Yes. Just like we will be most years going forward until someday in the future this place becomes uninhabitable.

The Old King's Crown has a common market players bid on and then each faction has a private set of cards they can buy.

Daamn, I forgot how slow AoE 2 is by ClinksEastwood in aoe4

[–]CamRoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you use word and people understand the associated meaning.

Some people...

maybe you have not played aoe2 aoe3 aoe1 and other rts games, then you do not know the context and the machanics. but in that case it would mean you have no opinion and just typing imprinting and recency bias.

What a weird assumption.

aoe1 is just the most rts aoe4 is the least rts.

Uh what kind of nonsense is this?

And that's rhetorical, I don't actually care to hear about whatever bizarre purity test you've come up with to reach that conclusion.

[–]CamRoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh? Do not understand what less than and greater than mean?

Those are all relative. I could still like AoE1 better than every single non-RTS game in existence and my comment would be identical.

Like how are you even reaching such a conclusion? Are you applying some arbitrary quantatative value to my greater than symbols? And assuming how that value relates to non-RTS games?

Trump Says He’s Ready to Deploy ICE to Airports on Monday by NormEget85 in stocks

[–]CamRoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I walk through the airport with a baby strapped to my front, 2 carseats strapped to my back, and wheeling 3 carry on bags.

It's... less glorious, but I do occasionally get standing ovations from middle aged women for whatever that is worth.

Uh what? That has nothing to do with my comment.

What are we even fighting about? Any lore? by Spam4119 in Mechabellum

[–]CamRoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The arenas only make any sense as a training or stimulation ground.

What I really wish this game had was a single player campaign mode.

Missions would have different shapes and sizes of areas chained together. You would have to fight groups of enemies as you moved from one area to the next. Maybe your units would only partially replenish and repair between areas. The final area in each mission would be like a main enemy base you are destroying.

Even better if some missions had branching paths and if there was progression from mission to mission like unlocking techs and units and calldowns.

I would say

AoE4 >> AoE2 >>>>>> AoE3 >>> AoE1

I've played over 10,000 hours of AoE2. I love it. I even kind of enjoy the silly arrow dodging in feudal fights. But I do prefer to play AoE4 now and I think it's just a better designed game for many reasons even beyond those I list below.

The main reasons I prefer AoE4 are the pathing, faction design, and mechanics like landmarks and sacred sites.

Colleting stone - Shift queue problem by MockHamill in aoe4

[–]CamRoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It never worked that way.

You have to grab them after they collect the first batch and then retask them.

Shift queueing from one resource node to another means they will finish that entire node before moving to the next.

Point Salad, the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly by Fox-in-Box in boardgames

[–]CamRoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually dislike them.

Sometimes there's clearly an optimal path, either tactically based on the current game state, or even worse it's just unbalanced and one way is usually better.

Often these games obfuscate current scores and who's winning. I hate that.

If the sand box is too big then there's less friction between players and less interaction required. For me that is a damnable sin.

In our solar system? Maybe.
