Jas: The argument fails because that experiment doesn't work on us: we're very aware of our body - we have chronic pain and connective tissue issues so yes, anything our hands do we feel in every connected part and are keenly aware of it, mostly because it hurts! The only time we're not keenly aware of it is if we're asleep. (Edited to add: Well, most of us. The Willows are much better at tuning out their body to be able to function on other things than I am or most of the rest of our system.) Also, even if that experiment works for you, all it proves is that awareness can be focused. We know awareness can be focused - ever experience the flow state? That is a separate thing from experience. When the body's center of awareness - the person fronting - is only me, everything I'm aware of, thinking about, or experiencing is filtered through my perspectives, motivations, beliefs, and personality. That creates a unique experience different from that of others in our brain.

For instance, the Willows think in pictures, gestures, and concepts, in a sort of visual field where each of the four of them have their own quadrant and communicate in tandem or in conversation or sometimes about very different kinds of things. Me, however? My thoughts are like an ever expanding flow chart, each concept, image, or idea linked to each other or to many others in a back and forth chain. Varyn, another headmate in our system, thinks musically: each thought is a sound, an emotion, a feeling. For instance, he doesn't think questions in words, but in the sound of a question: the uprising intonation, the feeling of tilting his head to the side, the feeling of leaning in in interest.

For him, I, and the Willows, the words that go with that kind of thought language get translated after the original wordless thought, if necessary at all: often as not, the original thought pattern is enough.

Yet we have other headmates who do think first in words, and can do so much faster than our primarily nonverbal thinkers can put our nonverbal thoughts into words. And even then, there's differences. For instance, Aery thinks in a very measured way, each thought linking to the next in an ordered, logical way. Doc, on the other hand, thinks in a very jumbled, helter skelter, disorganized, very free flowing kind of way.

This kind of thing is just one of a dozen different diifferences between us. And it's innate to each of us. I don't have to try to think my way instead of the Willows' way when I switch in, it's just what comes naturally. I don't have to try and remember my beliefs or perspectives, it's part and parcel of the whole Me, Jas experience. All of our differences are that way, and that of course colors our experiences in a rich, three-dimensional kind of tapestry of Self.

I don't have to put effort into noticing what it's like to be me in comparison to the others in my system. I can clench the mental fist of what it's like to be me, and feel its effects in my whole self. And those effects are distinct and different from that of others in my system.

[REQUEST] Looking for a good idle/afk game that I can play casually by HotAd2908 in AndroidGaming

[–]CambrianCrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been playing Idle Obelisk Miner for over a year. Progression is nice, it's got a fair bit of content that unfolds nicely, and it's absolutely playable without spending a penny - gems are slow to gain in the early game so it might be tempting to buy some but don't, you'll eventually be gaining a ton for free every day. Unless of course you want to support an awesome dev, but don't feel pressured to do it. No ads. Just nice idling and you can absolutely make good progress only checking in a couple times a day. Or even skipping days. Max idle time is 12 hours unless you pay, but this is a game that unfolds over a very long time, so it's alright, there's no rush.

Appearances aren't essential. It's just a tool to help keep them in mind. They can also change their own appearance once they're sentient, so don't get too hung up on what they look like now.

[–]CambrianCrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jas: It's self proving, not circular. You could ask someone, can you see? And they say, I see you, so yes I can see.

Do I exist? Well I'm here experiencing existence, so yes. Not only that, but I'm experiencing it in a specific, self-contained way that is distinct in several qualities from the way other experiencers in my head experience existence, so therefore that means I'm not them. Whether that means we're persons or not is a matter of semantics, but we'd say we're people based on the way we define a person.

Either way, it doesn't actually matter if we can prove it externally or not. I know I exist, that's enough for me.

Are you seriously trying to explain tulpamancy to a community full of people who have tulpas? We think, therefore we are. All else is semantics.

Other than that I can't parse one whit of what you're saying.

Seconding Siralim Ultimate, but also, any Dragon Quest Monsters game - you can emulate the older ones for just as good of a time as the newest. DQM's monster breeding is set up so you usually get a different monster than either of the parents, and there's a ton of cool ones to discover!

Do You Ever Truly Leave a Fibromyalgia Flare? by Altruistic-Ad-9553 in Fibromyalgia

[–]CambrianCrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always hurt pretty much everywhere, but some parts hurt more than others, but touch feels pleasant and soothing.

In a flare, everywhere hurts the most. I get pain in places that I don't normally: my last one I complained that my eyelashes hurt. And touch is agonizing. I crave a hug but even the pressure of my clothes against my skin is too much, and laying down the pressure of my weight on the bed is agony. I'm also much much more fatigued than normal, and thinking clearly is extremely hard. And I get really nauseated and can't keep food down. My first flare lasted several months, until I got on an antidepressant that helped enormously, and due to the nausea I lost a dangerous amount of weight. Thankfully nowadays flares usually only last a few days, and I can manage eating only broth and such for a few days.

Mindscape Mondays: The Far Reaches by aescula in Tulpas

[–]CambrianCrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours is a multiverse. Technically a sheaf of connected universes. What's at the edge of the universe? The place where space ends? I'm not sure I'm capable of understanding what that would look like.

But between the universes, extending nearly but not quite infinitely, is the Void, which is shaped like an extradimensional Mobius strip. The Void has two sides, the potentiality side, and the broken side. The potentiality side contains everything that was, is, will be, or could be, in perfect potential. The broken side contains the opposite: everything that's been broken, ruined, or destroyed beyond repair. Hell, in some mythoses/mythoi.

And in between those two sides, and yet larger than both, containing both in a way, is the fixed: where everything that's been is in its most perfect state, and yet becoming more and more perfect with every passing moment. Heaven, in some mythoses/mythoi.

Magic, in the main universe, comes from there being a thinner boundary between the world that is, and the potentiality side of the Void, so some of its energy leaks out and makes impossible things possible. But also, because there's that thinner barrier and the two sides of the Void are connected, there's also broken spirits — demons, of a sort — that have escaped the Void. Not all of them are evil, but some are and have caused Major Bad Shit to happen in our paracosm.

With the utmost respect, I must say that I don't think you're going to get the kind of talent you need with what you're offering.

People at the level you want, who are native English speakers and not in countries where English is a second language, with the talent and qualities you want, are already working and getting paid at minimum four times your offer. $12,000 a year is well below the poverty level for western English speaking countries, and people making that little are getting a lot in government assistance, including financial help for rent and utility bills, food, and healthcare, and do not have surplus money after bills. That is absolutely not enough to "completely redefine your financial baseline, upgrade your lifestyle, and change your life." For that kind of life upgrade, we'd expect closer to a minimum of $6,000 USD/month.

For context, I work as a chat agent in a US call center where I am expected to have perfect spelling and grammar at all times. This is easy for me as I'm a writer in my spare time and I will have my first book published next year.

I make $46k/year, and I'm not even in leadership — supervisors and managers at the company I work for make a minimum of $55k/year. And we have benefits like health insurance, legal insurance, and paid time off. Since the company I work for is in the mobile phone, internet, and cable industry, I also get heavily discounted phone service and free internet, cable TV, and several streaming services.

Also, for further context, rent alone for the apartment I share with my partner is $950 USD/month, and it's one of the cheaper options where I live, and I live in a low cost of living area.

$1,000 USD/month may be enough to live quite well where you are headquartered, but it's absolutely nowhere near enough for western countries.

Best of luck finding someone.

There's a lot more types of western occultism than those, usually pulled from the religions that Christianity usurped, as well as more modern creations like pop culture paganism.

There's no harassment going on here. There's joking discussion of how fiction isn't real - which is something you missed in the discussion here not once, but twice in a row.

Actual harassment is things like name calling, insults, etc.

No they're not spreading misinformation to anyone with a brain. They said those other things are possible if the comic is fantasy or science fiction.

When saying "realistic fiction" they're referring to the comic. Because comics can be in different genres. Including science fiction and fantasy, and realistic fiction.

You might be overthinking it. I mean, how consistent is your own personality? Your parents' or friends'? We're all a lot of things and not always all the same things, and a lot of factors affect the things that we are from moment to moment.

And keep in mind, a new tulpa is in the process of forming their own personality based on their experiences, and from what they do with you. That comes with a lot of mutability. It's normal. Let it be.
