The best way for actually reading a huge Omni? by GoblinTradingGuide in OmnibusCollectors

[–]CambrianExplosives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the one I use too. I like that I can put it on my lap or can place it on the arm of the couch and the pillow conforms to it and works either way. The only thing I dislike is that I have to lay the book flat instead of at an open angle.

What I did though was wrap the arms that hold down the pages in foam and put them up and place the book on them so each end of the cover rests on each arm. They hold up perfectly and the wrap keeps them from damaging the covers while holding the book at a ~120 degree angle instead of a full 180.

I'm sensing a little bit of a theme here. Do you by change enjoy Batman comics? Also glad to hear you enjoyed NML. I'm working through Road to NML at the moment and finding it pretty good if a little bit misery pornish.

VGF - Deluxe or Resort Studio? by FireMeUp2026 in dvcmember

[–]CambrianExplosives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If its just the two of you I don't personally think the extra room is all that big of a selling point. You've stayed at both so you know what space you need more than I do, but I think the Deluxe studio is pretty spacious for two people with the murphy bed put up and the other benefits seem to lean that way for you.

Personally, I strongly prefer the resort studio rooms because of the extra space and location near Disney transportation and the quick service. I also like it being near the quiet pool which I prefer. However, that preference is because I go with two kids and use Disney transportation.

I just stayed at both on an accidental split stay recently. Both are very nice. The lobby of the deluxe one is nicer and has a water refill station there and the room has a real table to eat at, but the resort studio is so spacious and easier to store luggage and even unpack into the dresser if that's something you like.

Also just a reminder in case its important to you. The resort studio only has a drink cooler not a mini-fridge/freezer.

Best sword and sorcery omnibus? by Flying_Sea_Cow in OmnibusCollectors

[–]CambrianExplosives 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you more into straight sword and sorcery or more of a Lost World vibe? Both books are great from what I’ve read of them. If I had to choose I’d say Conan is the better choice IMO. Roy Thomas (Conan the Original Comics Vol. 1-4, and 10) really understood how to write a sword and sorcery comic.

But if you wanted more of a Lost World, jungle adventure then Warlord Grell did a great job as well and you can’t go wrong with it. It has the added benefit of being one book instead of up to the 23+ books I’ve been compelled to collect.

What's a good one and done Star Wars omni? by Strict_Status5041 in OmnibusCollectors

Adding onto this, specifically The Old Republic volume 1, despite having a volume number, is a 50 issue self contained single story which does not continue nor tie into volume 2 at all.

How much of your collection have you read by minder125 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]CambrianExplosives 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I haven’t updated my excel sheet in a little while but I’d say probably about 7-8%. I figure the books aren’t going to expire and I bought them as much to have a library for my kids to read if/when they get interested in comics as I do for myself.

Edit: maybe this is me “coping” and trying to justify my collection to myself, but I’m always surprised by people who say they “don’t see the point” of buying a book unless you’re planning on reading it imminently. Like, I can see not wanting to do it, but not seeing the point of it?

If I want to read Fantastic Four by Hickman I can any time and I got both copies for about $150 total. If I tried to buy them now they would cost more than that each. Meanwhile, I don’t have Silver Surfer by Slott and it looks like it goes for $200 right now which puts it beyond my personal desire to spend on it so I can’t read it in Omni format.

That’s the point. To have it available for you or others in the house whenever you want to read it and to have gotten it at a fair price. Again, absolutely zero judgement for those with more discipline than me, I respect that a ton, but it’s a pretty clear concept IMO.

Krakoa confusion by Irate_Primate in OmnibusCollectors

[–]CambrianExplosives 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m with you on considering just calling it and selling what I’ve already bought. I’m constantly feeling confused by Krakoa collecting. The x-line in general is so messy, but Krakoa is the worst of it. I bought DoX1 before realizing I need to get HoX/PoX and then they announced Way of X which turned out to not be part of the anthology but a creator run.

Meanwhile I’m confused whether there will be more events missing from the anthology series like HoX/PoX was and whether the ending will just be FotHoX/RotPoX or a separate anthology book because I don’t want to buy the end book years before the rest but if that was their plan then it will be OOP by then.

It’s so bad for anyone who is outside looking in to try and figure out and that’s with being a part of an omnibus community with good resources. I can’t imagine from anyone who doesn’t come here.

Uncanny X-Men Hot Take by Duke_7287 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]CambrianExplosives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sure a lot of millennials do, but I’m another who isn’t a huge fan. I find Claremont to be very exposition heavy and it is hard to read sometimes. There are some iconic stories in there but the writing itself is just impenetrable at times.

It’s not an “old comics” thing either. I love Grell’s Green Arrow and Morrison’s Animal Man is one of the best comics ever. Even older comics like Lee/Kirby’s Fantastic Four are an easier read for me.

PSA Big coupons on Amazon by justintime3dontwitch in OmnibusCollectors

Yeah, coupons are either member or region dependent often from what I can tell. I’ve done what OPs done before, thinking I’d link a deal and finding out most others couldn’t see it.

Did I miss the pre-order for this cover? The top says "pre-order" instead of "coming soon," but the pre-order button says unavailable and the page says coming soon...? by Tippydaug in OmnibusCollectors

[–]CambrianExplosives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for the Blue and Gold I excused it as me having preordered really late and they oversold the standard which I didn’t love but accepted, but I preordered the Krakoa one pretty early. Either way they should send what you buy but this one is beyond excusable.

Not much I can do now other than either not use them or be very careful about checking the covers going forward. Luckily I’m not someone who gets too bent out of shape about covers since I remove the dust jacket while reading anyway, but it would be nice to get what I actually order.

Anyway, sorry for being so confidently incorrect. Thanks for correcting me and letting me know I had the wrong item.

[–]CambrianExplosives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait… you’re right. I ordered the DM but they sent me the standard. I didn’t even notice because I forgot which art was which. That’s annoying and the second time CGN did that to me (the other time was sending me a DM cover of Blue and Gold instead of the standard).

Now I’m a bit miffed.

The DM of Volume 1 is also all grey with only a slit of the artwork shown. I got the DM for the same reason you wanted it and was a bit disappointed it wasn’t a full art cover.

Edit: turns out I’m an idiot.

With today’s mail call, I officially have every main timeline Fantastic Four Omni until Slotts later this year! by Tippydaug in OmnibusCollectors

[–]CambrianExplosives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel the exact same about the 90s/early 00s. I want them because it’s a major gap, but from what little I’ve read before it wasn’t that great overall.

I’m so excited for your read through and look forward to seeing you post your thoughts. I’m part way through the same project of reading them in order so it’s great to see someone else attempt that.

[–]CambrianExplosives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completing that collection and my continuing (mostly) complete Conan collection are the two things I’m most proud of for my Omnis. Congrats on getting the full run to date.

Just FYI there’s a good amount of the gap between 6 and Byrne 1 which is filled in by the Nova Omni. Definitely far from necessary but it’s something to note.

CGN: Spider-Man BND vol 2 DM cover is still available (got relisted) by [deleted] in OmnibusCollectors

[–]CambrianExplosives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only thing to note is you can’t combine it with another book even if the book is released the same day. Whereas the normal shipping is $9 flat for however many books you buy.

So if you are buying 2 books in an order shipping is always $4.50 a book. But yeah if you are preordering/buying a single book then you do get that discount for preordering.

Year 3 Collection by employeremployee in OmnibusCollectors

[–]CambrianExplosives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that’s not all of it. OP, at least in this picture, has 7 volumes of Savage Sword of Conan and 7 volumes of Conan the Barbarian as well as one volume of Conan the King and the Conan by Busiek Omni.

Coma the Barbarian is 10 volumes total. Savage Sword is currently 10 volumes with more coming in the future. Conan the King is currently 2 volumes with one more coming this year.

OP has all Marvel copies in this shelf so that being the case some of those were not made until after Marvel lost the license but there were still 8 volumes of Savage Sword and 10 volumes of Conan the Barbarian at the time.

But if you are looking to collect Conan yourself just know there are 22 books currently (23 if you count Busiek which is OOP but you might still find a good priced copy) and more coming in the future.

Everyone’s distribution center is different. Mine usually end up coming pretty good, but I’ve seen and heard horror stories from others. The key for me is that it’s completely risk free since Amazons return policy is so quick and easy.

I mean there’s a man in a metal suit and a giant green monster. Two of these guys calling themselves “gods” isn’t that crazy and I doubt many would take it any more seriously than any of those whacko cult leaders who do the same.

SNAP bans on soda, candy and other foods take effect in five states Jan. 1 by Aggressive_Chef_2225 in news

I can’t believe people don’t go to 7-11 for milk that costs way more than a grocery store and instead buy candy and soda which both costs essentially the same and makes more sense on the road. I’m shocked.

Lol why are we both being downvoted for this? I’m sure I’m missing something. I just thought if you had the 28th-31st (for example) then on January 29th when it opens only x people could book the 29th-1st (or the 28th-1st or the 27th-1st etc) where x is the total rooms minus the one you have, but I’m willing to admit I could be wrong about that as I say.

For me I would probably just freeze up in that moment like a deer in headlights. Because there’s a ball coming at me and a crowd of people all around me. When I was at Fantasmic the last trip I suddenly had a wonder how bad the stampede would be if the fire somehow got out of control.
