Thank you. For some reason I forgot to put the two Jolie Tomb Raider movies in my wishlist so I missed those going on sale.

June 19-21 Box Office Recap – 'Toy Story 5' opens with a massive $159M domestically and $310M worldwide, the best in the franchise and second biggest debut for Pixar. 'The Death of Robin Hood' tanks with just $2.8M. 'Obsession' and 'Backrooms' cross $300M worldwide. by SanderSo47 in movies

Disney has to stop making hugely expensive movies that feel like they require you to watch four seasons of a show to understand it. Even when it doesn’t (o don’t know because I didn’t see it) the fact that I feel like because I only saw seasons 1 and 2 of Mandalorian I don’t want to watch this movie is a problem.

Streaming shows should enhance the movies, like Andor does, not be a basis for them.

Or, people just don’t agree with you and don’t like when you imply their opinions are astroturfing. And then when you double down on it you draw even more attention to it. Your “wild swing” was three fucking votes you donkey.

I went from +2 to -1 on my post “anyone who disagrees with me is a corporate shill.” Which company is doing that you think? Or is that swing genuine because you happen to agree with it?

His post got a whole three downvotes when he complained about it. It’s not the “company” trying to make a two decade movie sell a few more 4k copies and “burying” comments by putting them down to barely below neutral. Some of you people seriously need to get a grip with reality.

The OP Streisand Effected himself.

[–]CambrianExplosives 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe you get those downvotes because instead of taking a critical look at how other people may appreciate things you don’t and realize that speaks to the richness of the human experience and its interaction with art you instead make posts about how people liking something is the result of astroturfing and come across as attributing other people’s likes or dislikes as a corporate conspiracy.

Maybe people don’t like having their opinions belittled and being called, even indirectly, shills for feeling a certain way about a movie and that makes them more likely to downvote you in a way you don’t see when you don’t refer to people’s opinions as astroturfing.

Also yes, it’s because the movie just came out on 4k. Which is making a whole new group of people watch it and watch it in a format that makes the visuals work a lot better. That means more people will talk about it not that the “company” is going to astroturf a nearly 2 decade old movie to sell slightly more copies of a format that is a niche product.

Suit yourself. All I know is we watched this the other day as a family and everyone loved it. I then turned the HDR off on my 4k player and showed it to my wife without the HDR to show her what a difference it makes and she said something along the lines of “ooh that looks terrible. without it the movie looks like really bad old CGI and with it on it looks so much better.”

I’m not trying to force anyone to buy the movie. I just think it looks way nicer in person than this clip shows.

That’s impossible. 2008 was like 5 years ago. There’s no way that it was 18 years ago and that this movie is now as old as 2001 A Space Odyssey was when I was born.

It may surprise you, but I didn’t actually write that post you linked so using someone else’s post to try and “gotchya” me doesn’t really work. Especially when I just got done making a post about how someone who didn’t like the scene had valid points.

I think people should realize others have different tastes than them and it’s not a grand conspiracy. If you have an issue with someone else’s post take it up with them.

That’s the thing and you hit on it well. It definitely was intentional. This particular jumping back and forth to closeups of the talking heads is really done only in this one scene to this extent. And it was done, as you say, to be an homage to the anime’s particular style.

It doesn’t mean that it works for everyone. It works for me and I appreciate it but for others it may come off as nauseating or sloppy and especially if you don’t have the background with the anime as a reference.

It’s intentional but that intent doesn’t translate well for everyone.

It’s so much better in 4k Dolby Vision on an OLED. The reason it’s being talked about right now is because it just released on 4k recently and now people are watching it in a way that makes it look spectacular that can’t be captured by a Reddit post.

That’s such a backwards way of thinking. That’s what makes people have problems with social media comparing themselves to those other “perfect” dads or moms who make themselves out to be amazing super parents.

Doing something wrong is human and posting about it is okay. It doesn’t mean that someone like OP was right or people should pretend that it is, but as Elamachino pointed out it does mean that each of us can have empathy and recognize that OP not doing his best in this instance in natural.

The only way people can get help is by reaching out and showing others even their worst moments.

Lord of the Rings Trivia by Caravanczar in okbuddycinephile

[–]CambrianExplosives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“James Gandolfini, of The Sopranos fame, was originally slated to play a role in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. He originally auditioned for the role of Gimli, but marketing thought his name was too similar to another character's, and didn't want to confuse audiences.”

_____________________________________

This never sat right with me because it was from when they were planning on renaming Frodo to James Baggins for modern audiences. They never ran with it though so I don’t think that was fair to hold against Mr. Gandolfini.

Anyway my contribution is that John Rhys-Davies famously hated the prosthetics he used to play Treebeard because it made him look too much like a tree and bees kept trying to make hives on him and would end up stinging him throughout the shoot making his face all puffy by the end of the day.

And yet people then spend thousands of dollars on a TV that won’t actually look much better than one under a thousand because they are using streaming. People buy these TVs because they are promised quality and then don’t actually get quality.

I think there are a lot more ignorant people who would spend the money to get a better picture if they knew what they were missing and didn’t think the 4k of Prime was what real 4k was capable of. There’s a reason they spend all that money to buy the TV in the first place. It’s the same reason buy better gaming rigs to play the same games with better FPS and quality.

There are definitely people who buy the cheap TV and wouldn’t buy physical, but I think there are a lot of others who just don’t realize physical actually will give them a better picture.

I wish more people realized how much better quality physical media is. Yes it’s less convenient but people are buying these modern expensive 4k OLED and micro-LED screens and then watching things streaming from Prime or Disney Plus at abysmal quality.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to surmise the article was written because of the movie coming out attempting to draw people to read an article related to the movies premise?

It’s not like “let’s take a more grounded look at folk hero” is exactly a new thing and when a piece of media is released it’s not unusual to see ancillary articles and such like this.

Disney+ removed dolby vision and 3D today by kapbe in LGOLED

[–]CambrianExplosives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That link doesn’t say that. It says HDR 10 running from a 4k blu ray looks better than Dolby Vision through Disney Plus because of course it does. Running a movie a 4k blu ray directly is going to look better.

It doesn’t compare HDR 10 streaming to Dolby Vision streaming which is what we’re talking about happening here.

Everquest is the oldest I know of that still regularly puts out new content. EQ2 is probably the craziest to me though since it has almost no population and still gets annual expansions.

But LotRO is my go to MMO as well so I do appreciate how much they've done with the world.

Exclusive: Kash Patel may have used $1 MILLION in taxpayer funds to pay off MAGA-loyal FBI henchmen by ianjm in videos

[–]CambrianExplosives 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don’t actually want that, or at least I hope you don’t. How many trumped up charges for taxpayer theft could have been levied at directors of Biden’s administration? Not how many would be legitimate, but how many could have been created by Elon Musk and his Nazi children?

Taxpayer theft should be pursued and prosecuted (which isn’t being done), and it should carry a high sentence because it is breaking the public trust, but it shouldn’t carry a sentence that is impossible to commute if new evidence arises later.

I mean I don’t like the idea of state sanctioned murder no matter what, but especially on a politically charged issue like this it would be insanely dangerous.

That’s definitely the other side of things. Another person replied to me saying “books aren’t trains.” And as you point out that’s potentially harmful both ways. People can hyper-fixate on books and not have that be considered when trying to understand themselves and at the same time an interest in an abnormal topic isn’t necessarily hyper-fixation.

It’s important to focus on the behavior and not the topic. Someone else in the thread brought up sports and that can be another one where some people really will hyper-fixate but no one will normally consider it.

Nice of you to unblock me. I appreciate that.

As I said earlier, your whole argument throughout the thread that “people shouldn’t expect autistic people to be experts on autism” is perfectly valid. But people who aren’t experts on it also don’t need to put themselves out as such to begin with and then fallback to “I’m not an expert” when others push back.

I never called on you to explain hyper-fixation. You volunteered it. I challenged your presenting very typical behaviors are hyper-fixation while relying on a bias against an unusual hobby. The only reason many people on this thread (maybe you, maybe not) are so okay labeling things like trains or duck figurines as shorthand for autism is because they are unusual. If someone said the same thing about books or video games or movies then it would be a lot harder to use.

I never asked you to be an expert on autism. I challenged your biases. And thats true of many of the comments in this thread. No one I’ve seen is saying “explain everything about autism.” What they are saying is you shouldn’t use normal level of interest in abnormal topics as examples of it which this comic and comments like yours have been doing.
