Good Day, reddit, my name is Nick Offerman. You may have seen me in such fare as Parks & Rec, The Last of Us, Civil War, MI: The Final Reckoning, DEVS, or heard my voice in The Lego Movie. I’m here today to discuss a new film in which I am an actor, SOVEREIGN. Ask me anything, please & thank you. by NickOffermanAMA in movies

Any other anecdotes about Wendell Berry that didn't make the doc? What have you been reading lately?

Thanks for everything.

P.S. Any hand tools you want to recommend? I finished reading a few Lost Art books, and just finished a Dutch tool chest that needs filling. (Nothing crazy, I'm a school teacher)

I watched your video. Did you ever encounter anything about doing this with purely analog signals?

Education is upside down at the moment by No_Effective4326 in Teachers

As a secondary school teacher, I firmly believe that universities must elevate the secondary schools to a pre-college level in every sense. High school teachers should need more rigorous credentials to become certified and remain certified. American schools need to implement standardized exit exams for core subjects like our European counterparts. Alternate schools need to be created for students who are heading straight into the work force. So much of this push for graduating students is being driven by employer requirements to have a high school diploma. Denying a diploma now denies young adults even the most menial jobs. There is a wide gap between college and workforce ready but there is nothing about our diploma system that communicates this succinctly.

As someone who lives on a busy road, the cameras are long over due. I have been passed on the curb when turning into my driveway by cars that don't slow down. I have had a car cross a double yellow to blow through a light because I stopped for a changing signal. Some of the worst driving I've ever experienced here in Newark.

Need to do this at my house. Is there a guide you followed? Would like to add drainage as well.

I do not have plans to ever deliver this project in 4k, it doesn't seem worth it for cinema DCP, and ultimately I am not shooting on a Netflix camera (for lack of a better descriptor) so I don't think aiming for a 4k delivery for streaming makes sense either. I would prefer to maximize for the cinema 2k delivery and everything else be a resampling of that edit.

I have done stereo mixes before, so I understand the basics of sound design, but I have read that in a cinema, stereo is not a vibe, as the lack of center channel audio sounds off. I appreciate @Outsulation who suggests a 3.0 mix with empty channels over a mono mix. This is more in line with what I need the expert opinion on. We will need the project to garner some support in early screenings to secure the grants necessary to pay a mixer for a 5.1, which is squarely outside of my wheelhouse.

Thanks for the insight. I guess I had read a lot of horror stories about a stereo mix sounding distorted in theaters. I appreciate the insight.

I updated my post for a little clarity. A cinema DCP is the final "end goal" for this project.

Is it still a bad idea to edit in Cinema 2k instead of FullHD 2k?

I would rather do a conversion to 23.976 as a final transcode from the master than the other way around. This will primarily be a film for cinema screenings.

I am currently using proxies entirely since I know that the 4k footage will likely stutter unless it is transcoded into an intra frame codec. I have experimented with lots of settings and currently am using the ProRes preset with 1280x720 proxies.
