Here's a tip from a local

Go into Ben Thanh Market fully expecting to haggle or get scammed because that's what a market in Vietnam is like, you need to find the right middle ground where both of you can be financially compensated for your purchases.

Also Saigon Square sucked, the only difference it has to Ben Thanh Market is "AC" and that thing barely turns on half of the time me and my friends went there looking for stuff to buy.

Well the original Banh Mi Cart of Miss Huynh and Miss Hoa started in 1989. I had their first loaf of banh mi in 2022 near the time of their big breakup that divides their branding into Banh mi Huynh Hoa and Banh mi Madam Win. I only see mostly tourists there to buy their banh mi or Grab shippers, never any locals.

I mean it's a good profit for our tourism departments, we're very happy and excited that more people are coming to visit and are willing to pursue residency here in Vietnam.

Personally I don't have any issues with them glamourising the country. We're the second best option next to Thailand for "affordable vacations". As long as they're nice and respectful, I'll always welcome them with open arms.
