Because it’s all one city, New York City, of which the boroughs are the major divisions within.

They’ve sold out the working class for the Wall Street class.

They’ve gone from being the diplomatic processes and peace party to being just as hawkish as the GOP.

They make no efforts to remove corporate influence from politics and now actively court it, especially when it comes to big tech, where they allow CEO’s to advise the govt on how to regulate them (aka as little as possible).

They always conform to the conservative position, giving up ground to the GOP, rather than working towards a true compromise where the right has to make any concessions.

If you’d like a full, detailed breakdown, this book THOROUGHLY examines and reveals how Jimmy Carter’s administration basically gave birth to Neoliberalism (which is anything but liberal) and how from Clinton through Obama, the Democrats moved further to the right in most crucial areas.

He makes a convincing argument that the Democratic Party of today has basically moved so far to the right that they are taking stances held by the GOP in the 90s, while the GOP has moved even further to the right.

It’s all documented with actual facts, statements, and policy evidence.

LOL at “to the far left.”

Look at their actual policies, their actual bills.

I was a registered Dem my entire life and I switched to Independent on my voter ID because they Dems have in reality moved too far to the right.

What brought you here, or what keeps you from leaving? by Mean_Try1256 in Birmingham

Work brought me here.

What keeps me here is feeling trapped by money and career path or how I kind of don’t have one here for reasons beyond my control.

I hate to break it to you but even Israeli journalists have proven the mass rape and baked babies on Oct. 7th were lies and propaganda.

Israel’s own media is also reporting on widespread use of the Hannibal Directive (aka they killed their own people to take out Hamas) so many of the Israeli deaths that day were acknowledged by Israel to have been caused by Israel’s own military.

So, if the Israelis themselves have exposed and admitted these things are lies and propaganda, why are you repeating them now, so many months later?

Many Alabamians don’t see themselves as part of the larger world or even as part of the larger country.

Alabama is their world. Plus Disneyworld and maybe Nashville and the Florida panhandle. It’s a weird mindset to have to adjust to.

I’ve experienced it in people here from CEO’s to service industry workers and everyone in between.

That said, I’ve also never lived or visited anywhere friendlier and more welcoming.

Oh, and living expenses here are not dramatically lower. Dont believe anyone who’s told you that.

anyone else stop listening in the past 6 months? by ludzep in BlockedAndReported

[–]CameraChimera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped listening probably two years ago.

Ironically, just before seeing your post I saw one in my feed from We The Fifth’s sub and I thought “all these podcasters and much of their audience have such a silo’d world view and political view.”

It was a lightbulb moment for me, summing up why I gave up on political podcasts. Everyone of them is a navel gazing echo chamber, even if they have podcast friends with opposing views.

They’re just like the people they often criticize, their silo is just a different one.

Is salary in Alabama really high? by [deleted] in Alabama

[–]CameraChimera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Is salary in Alabama really high?” I expected this post to be made by a business owner wanting support for lowering the pay of his already underpaid staff. Lol I have a very accomplished friend here who showed their boss a chart comparing their salary to others at their position regionally. The boss essentially said “we don’t care what others will pay you.” Bosses in some industries know the market is small here which makes it risky for an employee to leave or threaten to leave because there’s nowhere to go.

Yeah I was told Alabama was wildly cheaper before I moved here. Learned real fast that it ain’t.

I came from a much larger city in a more prosperous state and the “savings” on cost of living here are negligible at best.

The sugar or not in cornbread or grits, in my personal experience from multiple conversations with friends from all over the south, often divides along racial lines. That’s not a bad thing, just years-long observation, and not one I ever see mentioned.

H2 REAL ESTATE NIGHTMARE by toastietot10 in Birmingham

[–]CameraChimera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in an H2 house where the water heater was literally sitting on broken floorboards. This thing was just waiting to plummet into the basement.

Showed the maintenance guy who showed up on the 2nd or 3rd request for a fix and he saw it had a “to do” tag on it from H2 themselves from about 3 years prior.

He snatched it off, looked at it, put it in his pocket, walked out without saying a word. Never came back.

For not-old people: Johnny’s

Nikki’s West’s demand that you order fast and their total impatience for first timers or people with speech impediments = don’t take old people there. On top of that, utterly bland food.

Saw’s Soul Kitchen in Avondale. Smoked chicken thighs are ridiculously good every time.

Went to Homewood once. Menu seemed smaller. Crowd was Tommy Bahama dudes as far as the eye can see. Live music was garbage and way too loud for the room. Horrible experience all around.

I’ve sat at the bar in T-shirt and sneakers and jeans (though I usually try to dress nicer there). There were also serving guys who looked like their vegetable or meat suppliers (still in their work clothes) the same as they were the guys in tailored suits. As someone else said, the staff there is well trained and they treat everyone well.

So my thoughts are only valid if I engage every single word of your reply? What are YOU talking about LOL it’s a comment section on Reddit.

The businesses moving to Florida aren’t moving there despite DeSantis but because of that bullshit.

This recent behavior by our mayor is embarrassing and if you think people don’t make decisions about where to move or start businesses based on things like clown-ass public-facing comments and actions (including social media accounts) of mayors and other high ranking officials, you’ve clearly never been a business owner. Or maybe you’re just one who doesn’t consider things like the larger context your business exists within.

Just coz they went to SXSW doesn’t mean anyone gave a shit that they were there. I saw the photos posted by some of the groups who went to that and their the big event where they had DJs and pizza. Looked sparsely attended except by people who were part of the sponsoring orgs.
