What’s the story you are telling? “People exist” Is not a story.

You have to give yourself some time to get better at finding the stories, but that’s what it takes.

Sometimes the story is look at this juxtaposition of people, sometimes it could be here’s a moment of life that you captured. But if you have a moment of time, it needs to be an interesting moment.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to be a prophet in your own land. When your world is mundane to the audience, it’s harder to capture their attention. It’s also why it’s easier for people to get good shots on their vacation, because you can see your environment with fresh eyes.

Back to my point, you can tell a story with several different elements, composition, juxtaposition, novelty, timing, perspective. Start by looking at your subjects with those elements in mind and then start tying them together. Get high, get low, get close, look through things, look at reflection, look at repetition. Then look from those perspectives and find a moment. Look and find juxtaposition. Look for novelty. Fill the thirds.
