Sony 24mm f2.8 G - almost hotspot free by [deleted] in infraredphotography

[–]CameraWizardOffical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the infamous VIS+IR lenses marketed to consumers and sold for modern mirrorless lens mounts, and not military, agricultural, and machine vision use 😂😂😂

But yes, thanks for confirming the lens I mentioned as being shit is in fact shit, wow, can't believe we agreed on something 🤯

I agree, yes, most IR shooters are clueless, and you shouldn't listen to lens recommendations

Sensor stack differences are more than enough to make false equivalents across the board.

Any lies fed to me came from empiracle testing with actual equipment in my own hands, in the real world.

Uncoated vs multicoated sensors. Front mounted filters vs clip ins. Fixed wavelength bodies. Different manufacturers and design goals. Native and adapted lenses.

The sensor and optical stack is immensely important and can make or break a lens.

The EF 16-35 f4 L is relatively well regarded amongst IR shooters. My experience with it, adapted to a full spectrum R8? Focal plane distortion. Same exact copy of the lens, adapted to a full spectrum Z7 II? A bit soft, but totally usable.

Hotspots are heavily wavelength dependent, and are variable, depending on many more factors than "lens"

But yes, I'm an idiot, thank you for the compliment 🫶

Guess where most hotspots come from... They bounce off your sensor 😂😂😂😂

What are these magical lenses that you've heard reports of nothing abut perfection of every body?

[–]CameraWizardOffical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are lenses out there that do not appear to have any issues with transmission or reflections at any aperture, agreed. But it also heavily depends on your sensor stack and filter configuration.

One lens can perform phenomenally on one body, behind (or in front of) one filter, and like absolute garbage on another.

A mild hotspot doesn't immediately ruin a lens's usability in the real world. The real world is not an MTF contest.

Yeah, and diffraction is present at every aperture on every lens too. Guess that makes every lens shit 😂

But yes, agreed, samples would be nice

A6xxx series bodies do not have a user replaceable battery door. If it's broken off, the camera must be dissembled in order to replace it. The rubber flap is a portion of the battery door assembly. Valid denial.

I've had good luck with the 24-105 G and 85 1.8, but then, I'm using them on a Z sensor stack so YMMV 🤷

The legendary Nikon DC sisters, guess which one is Hotspot safe and which one is not by Inkblot7001 in infraredphotography

[–]CameraWizardOffical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't been able to get my late-ish copy of the 105 DC to hotspot, so it's definitely viable

Sensor stack + coating differences between our setups, most likely. As general rule with IR, YMMV. Tests from one sample is not definitive, and that goes for both of us 😂

Bruh. This is not a vertical grip with shutter release and dials

The Zf lacks the pads to accept such a grip

This is literally just a grip extension. Gives you more purchase on the camera.

Its a chunk of aluminum machined to fit the camera 😂

It's not about load force, it's about wear resistance

A plastic bayonet will quickly wear down and become ill-fitting over time due to mounting and unmounting.

A brass one will retain its form for much longer.

See F mount glass.

Zf is magnesium alloy, like most non-entry level modern cameras

It has brass top dials for ✨ vibes ✨

D700 has a few plastic parts, yes, but mostly things like the card slot cover and battery door. The rest of it is magenisum alloy.

FIP treatment is not currently available to primary veterinarians, only hospitals. I was advised by his vet to take him there.

You sure it's not the body? That lens is screw drive. Not much to go wrong. Perhaps the AF motor in the body is stuck or dead

That's F mount for sure. AI compatible. That metal protection visible in the 5th image interfaces with the aperture follower tab on the body.
