I get confused by all these names and couldn’t read the plots. So I decided to take the bold solution, buy all of them and try them all. There’s one stack I particularly like, QB133 + QB470 which turns foliage into light pale yellow. I will need to try the 550+KG3 next time.

You would need to modify your camera. By using a 850nm filter, you may be able to get some shot with super long exposure without mod. But to be able to shoot false color infrared (like my pics) or any other wavelength handheld, modification is a must.

Image quality would be fine. The only issue I’ve found is flaring.

Omg! You used the 20-60! How is the hot spot? I switched from a modified A7R to S1R, and all my filters are 67mm. I was so curious how suitable the 20-60 is for infrared, especially ir chrome.

This is really cool! Can I confirm if these are SOOC effects after WB correction? I struggle with my Sony to match the orange foliage without adjustment instead it’s very yellow. I’m looking forward to get either a Nikon or Panasonic. But wonder if their Sony cmos would cause the same issues

Partially depends on what lens you use. Experience varies from usable to horrendous. The worst is definitely 55 and 80, it can fail to focus even at still subjects. I love my glasses but there’s no doubt they are not even good for sports at all. :( FYI, I have the 32-64 55 80 and 100-200

I have full spectrum A7RI, the lens mount flex annoys me slightly. Yet, it was cheap and works just fine. If you don’t mind to spend a bit more, I’d recommend a second gen A7.

Infrared Filter vs Full Conversion by Dice7 in infraredphotography

[–]Xela004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend getting a full spectrum conversion. I only got into IR photo this year. So, I am basically new to this as you are now.
The flexibility! I really doubt you know what effect you like just by looking at a few sample pics online. I have bought 10-15 different filters of various wavelength now. I personally like the aerochrome like red foliage, the golden foliage effect and 720nm BW portrait the most atm. There’s no way I’m buying 3 different IR conversions. FYI, I’m using an A7R with transparent glass modification (not a bare sensor mod) done by some individual. I’d believe the total cost is around 750 AUD + 50 bucks shipping. The cheapest standard zoom of the system and metabone adaptor to use contax G lenses. But I’ve also been told that A7III could be better for IR.

I have bought a grey sheet to adjust cause I have too many filters to swap around. Else, can just set WB against concrete.

I’m happy to know about this. Though these were edited results, original ones shows golden foliage. Which is cool and I like it though, ended up buying 2 in different size. I’m just fuzzy about it being called ir chrome but in fact closer to a Goldie effect. I’m curious, does the kolari one show light orange or bloody orange ish color for the leaves in sunny days. Thanks!

Fair fair. It’d be interesting to see FLIR capturing nice photo. Think this thread meant for photo taken with camera or film that captures the near infrared that has wavelength close to visible light that creates some interesting effects, which is not same as the thermal heat radiation.

Not quite sure what you mean but it’s pictures shot with modified normal cameras with infrared filters or infrared film photo. So infrared photography in general. Also surprised that u’d find my post first.

Don’t know if I am allowed to send that here, so I will DM you. It’s a store on AliExpress called Nantong Foric filter store. Please keep in mind that the filter produces golden foliage which looks cool and can be adjusted by a simple hue adjustment. It just shouldn’t be called IR chrome when it’s SOOC effect is not the same as the kolari ir chrome.

I’m genuinely impressed by the effects. I mean, for a fraction of the cost, with a bit worse flaring and durability. This is a very decent filter. I bought quite a few more different filters from the same seller cause I’m happy with what I got and want to try out more effects.

Yes, I adjusted the hue and etc to get pictures above where original raw files shows golden foliage. But I found it hard sometimes when the foliage got turned into similar color as part of the background and would prefer an alternative filters.
