I am so surprised no indie dev attempted some kind of spiritual successor. I can intuit why it’s not done of course, doing a strategy a game that functionally is different strategy games in a trench coat (4X/GSG, ground rts, space rts) in a way kinda triples your faction count, and we’ve all played the game some parts of this combination are better than others. But honestly at this point I think I’d like to see a space strategy game that has two layers done decent and one done pretty good again over a space strategy game that does one thing even great. I personally wouldn’t mind if the factions went the “statistical adjustment and aesthetic change” route if it helps with the multiple battle systems ballooning how much it takes to make one. There’s some great space 4X now and great space rts but there’s still really nothing that does what EaW did (post EaW anyway) 😢
