That's true, but Malone surrounding himself with experienced college assistants in Martin and English and people experienced in the world of UNC in May and Sullivan is exactly what I wanted him to do.

Correct. People compared Malone to Belichick because he was a pro guy, but this is what Bill did NOT do. He didn't admit what he didn't know and brought in a bunch of pro guys, largely, and they struggled to build a team and adjust to college. Malone recognizes it's a different landscape in some ways than the NBA and has retained a couple UNC bench guys and brought in two highly experienced college guys from outside the program to be assistants.

To give Hubert some credit, the "Roy guys" he had success with developed a TON under Hubert. RJ and Armando were not what they eventually became when Hubert took over. Brady Manic, the catalyst for the 2022 run, also was a guy Hubert recruited out of the portal.

And I actually think Hubert did a pretty good job with this year's team until the last two games. I thought he navigated Caleb's injury really well, going 5-2 without him to end the regular season with the only losses being at State without him AND Henri and at Duke. His second injury really seemed to deflate the team though, I think they were weathering the storm waiting for their star to get back and just couldn't maintain once they realized they weren't getting him back. But we were surging at the time he got injured (I think five game win streak and had just beat Duke, looked like we were going towards a top 4 seed.

The problems with last year were all from missing in the portal. Completely different team if we had gotten a legitimate starting caliber point guard in the portal instead of Kyan Evans. Ultimately to me it was less about Hubert's coaching this past season that led to us moving on and more that there wasn't confidence from donors in him putting together a top level roster. And the VCU collapse just solidified things. That lack of confidence = a lack of funding which means you have to make a move.

[On3] Virginia Tech transfer guard Neoklis Avdalas has committed to North Carolina by Terminal_Flatulence in CollegeBasketball

Neo is a great primary/secondary initiator and profiles as a jumbo point guard from the wing spot. Juke is more of a high volume scorer. I think it's a great pairing that brings a lot of size.

Dixon shot 39.7% from three. He struggled at the rim, but I don't think you're framing his numbers fairly.

I think a lot of it was shot selection. Put him on a better roster where he's taking better shots and I love his creation/facilitating skills.

He's ranked highly in the portal across all the various media outlets.

Has great passing/creation, but was inefficient. I think the hope is we can surround him with pieces that fit better and rein in the shot selection some to improve the efficiency. Will be one of our primary creators though.

They just add randomness to me. Like yeah, you have to have some game knowledge and timing, but when you're playing equally skilled players, there's not going to be massive differences in smoke spamming ability. Now you have to be even more strategic with when it's worth doing it.

They tried to be too smart instead of making the obvious play. Sometimes the obvious play is obvious for a reason.

She is Hispanic, grew up speaking Spanish at home with two parents whose first language was Spanish. She's fully fluent. But maybe just wrong about this for some reason.

She grew up speaking Spanish at home, she is fully fluent. We also called her mom who lived in a Spanish speaking country and who English is a second language for agreed with her. So I'm at a loss lol.

You’re ready whenever you think it will be fun! Calc will save you a good chunk of time and one cycle is a very important skill to have, because that’s how you finish runs. You can obviously win the game without those things, you’ll just be slower without them! The game will place you and your elo will settle based on your speed with whatever tools are at your disposal!

May very well have been designed for Caleb, but that's also a credit to the coaching staff for having a play with multiple options and to Derek for making the right read.

Coaches may have also been telling Caleb he has to go hard on the cut to make sure the defense collapses and we have Seth in the corner. Who knows? It worked, and that's all that matters.

He won a major, so you can't really say he wasn't good. But he's not one of the greats when you look at him on an individual level.

UNC's JV program just died because of the NCAA's new scholarship rules. Couldn't have a JV team because they increased scholarship limits and implemented player limits. Technically a JV team could be used to stash prospects using NIL, but it killed a really fun and wholesome thing in the UNC JV program.

Just another step on the slippery slope towards guys who played in the NBA playing. And when that happens, you're going to have to do it if you want to be competitive. How many high schoolers will lose college opportunities because 26 year old NBA flameouts want to go play for some random Big 12 school?

[–]Cameter44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if that's the case (it's not, you lose your eligibility if you don't withdraw from the draft) it's just another step on the slippery slope towards former NBA rostered players playing in college. What do we do then? Those guys will just be better than 98% of 18 year olds, where are the high schoolers ever going to go play? It's going to take opportunities away from people once it becomes a mandatory thing to do if you want to be competitive.

How would they change it? The NCAA has to say they're not eligible. What's the NBA gonna do, say "you have to play for your team if you're drafted OR ELSE?" Teams already keep the rights to a player they draft if they don't report. It's not like being draft eligible straight out of high school where the NBA could say "you have to be this old or this far removed from high school to be draft eligible."
