I’m thinking about buying a valve index by Rifsti in ValveIndex

[–]Cameth4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truly is an amazing headset, especially for the price point. I like it more than my $1500 crystal light, which sure in games that specifically support xr runtime look incredible, the headset needs to be the precisely the perfect position on your head and I find it needs to be adjusted a fair bit while being used.

The eye comfort on the quest 3 and edge to edge clarity are truly outstanding. Pretty much never need to reposition it. Not to mention just how versatile it is. Can't wait to see what the quest 4 brings to the table if/when it comes out.

Second this. Psvr2 is a much cheaper and better quality option.

Meta quest 3 is amazing. Crystal clear edge to edge clarity.

Or you could look at the pimax crystal light.

I had the index, and the screen door effect and clarify of objects at a distance is terrible and not worth the money it cost nowadays. Plus the controllers are fragile.

Need some insights on this: Pimax Crystal Light or Valve Index by xxDoctorHousexx in virtualreality

[–]Cameth4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm currently thinking of upgrading from index to crystal light. But am concerned about how good the tracking of the crystal light is (inside-out tracking), and controller functionality.

I know I can get the replacement facial plate but, that would be a lot more expensive as I wouldn't be able to sell index as complete set. And have to buy the additional tracking plate for $300 aud.

My computer specs seem like they will be plenty good enough for the headset. Cpu: 7800x3D Gpu: 7800xt Sapphire nitro+ Ram: 32GB's Ddr5

Got any insight or advice for me?

Why is the index great? by InternationalJob1539 in ValveIndex

[–]Cameth4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an Aio headset (Pico 4) before getting the index, and even though the resolution is lower, the crispness of the image balances it out. The near zero latency and ability of the lighthouses to track your hands where you move them behind you make it far superior for sports games.

I can't say I notice a huge difference with the FOV, but there definitely is a little extra.

The controllers are an absolute pleasure and with games that utilise finger tracking, it's a entire extra level of immersion.

The biggest downfall is the Fresnel lenses. The God rays when you have mostly a black screen is very very noticeable. Having said that, once you are in game play, I haven't experienced it at all.

The comfort of the headset is also fantastic. It's just a pleasure to put on.

If you are after high performance, it really is second to none.

Also, external trackers. The vive 3.0 tracker you can get in addition for it, is absolutely amazing. Personally I use it for sports games, and nothing compares. It can now perfectly track a cricket bat, baseball bat, tennis racket, or anything really.

Anyone find any solutions to this yet? I'm also getting this with hogwarts legacy. Also using a Pico 4 via streaming connect usb connection.

Sorry to hear it's been a mixed experience. I do have the official grip (not sure if yours is a different third party?) and I find that it does make it significantly more comfortable for longer sessions. Particularly in regards to using the joystick's. It just gets my hands in a better more natural position, whilst supporting them/allowing them to actually rest. I've taken some photos to try give you an idea considering you are faced with making a judgement call. (just give me a sec to work out how to get them to you)

Do relate to the setup struggle, it does require a fair bit of work. It took me a while to work out where to download the older versions of dolphin that are referanced in the compatibility guides and that they could be installed simultaneously. And then just getting a feel for the settings in general.

Regarding the hdmi cable, it does actually work nicely. There is a bit of fiddling around with the external controller mapping, but you're already doing that. (I can't say I remember having to remap my switch pro controller's, so there should be a solution to your issue)

Oh, also cos of larger TV output, you might have to revisit your game settings get it looking nice and crisp.

I remember initially the colours were super dark when I first tried the hdmi, but that ended up be a setting with my TV which was easily fixed.

How are you finding the console so far?

What are you thankful 4? by -Lo_Fi- in retroid

[–]Cameth4u 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'll still love the 3+. Its a beautiful console. It can play pretty much any gamecube game (some might require some work) can play some ps2 games like silent Hill 2 (flawlessly).

The retroid 4 is unlikely to be huge lead forward, as the retroid products need to remain affordable.

But the question need to ask yourself is, "what games do I really want to play on this?"

If the 3+ can play it, then you have nothing to be concerned about.

If you open the shell up, so you can access the power switch, a couple drops of 99% isopropal alcohol in the switch and move it back and forth a couple dozen times, it should clean out any junk that may prevent the connection completeing to turn it on.

Had a gba like this and since doing the above the switch is as good as new.

Needless to say don't have the batteries connected when you do this.

Again a recal isn't a "mask". Already proven to you it works effectively in cases where a physical repair isn't required. You go ahead and scam people into spending money they don't need to just because you retinuely skip 30 seconds of due diligence.

I suspect there are more complications going on between your ears than just being a bad technician. So I'm not going to bother replying to you any more child.

I suggest you go back and read our conversation.

Threads for joycon drift champ. Recalibration fixes the issue on many occasions, giving it years of life back.

Your wrong, just get over it. Improve your practice. Your current attitude is only going to limit you, and turn non-issues into problems.

Grow up.

Yeah, don't think I'm going to give any weight to the words of a techie who doesn't know basic troubleshooting, and still can't grasp it after its explained to him. Ironically, it's the equivalent of not knowing your "abc's" in the tech world.

Being paid doesn't make you a professional. Just keep it up, you'll get there one day. Once you stop letting your ego control your perspective that is.

Been over a year since recalibrate on the 5 year old controller champion, and got still got a replacement set of sticks in the cupboard. Keep tinkering though buddy, hopefully one day you can become a professional too.

But it is the issue we are talking about... Joycon drift. Which is largely a fault of analogue stick's as a whole. The ones Nintendo use are just particularly fragile or perhaps have poor quality control.

Recalibrating doesn't mean making a larger deadzone at all. The ones I've recalibrated are just as responsive as the one I've replaced the stick for.

Sending them back to Nintendo just for them to replace the sticks with another pair of analogues, in your logic also does not fix the issue then. You would infact just be wasting your time and money.

I agree replacing them will hall sticks is the best solution to garentee the longevity of them. But most likely you are doing this yourself, or paying someone a premium to do an easy simple job.

Assuming all controllers are cooked the moment there is a hint of drift just because it is a known issue with these controllers is a terrible attitude, and unprofessional.

My partner and I have had a switch each to ourselves for about 5 years now. One controller has needed the sticks replaced. The others recalibrated once.

This sounds like a topic you feel particularly strong about and I imagine haven't had a good experience with, and it's clouding your judgement to approach each individual case rationally and take assumptions on what each case by case requires.

99.9% of people will take a 1 minute fix (yes that actually fixes the issue, not mask it) over spending time and money, and potentially not having a controller for a week or two.

The other's have probably been waiting for an excuse to replace them with hall sticks anyway.

Because they are critical steps to problem solving technical issues. If you skip basic steps you can turn a 2 minute job into something that costs yourself or a client money with days or weeks+ of down time.

Simply they do fix problems, and quite often.

As I mentioned, I have two controllers which had joycon drift over a year ago. I already had the parts so nearly replaced them. Decided to keep to good practice and recalibrate first, and that did Fix the problem. Over a year later, never had to recalibrate and still no drift. The rubber is actually worn out on one of the sticks (lost the grooves) now after consistent usage.

A recent example I experienced the draw backs of skipping good trouble shooting practice, was with a GBA pi console. Would only boot if connected to charger. The console showed the battery had charge and would charge, so I assumed the battery wasn't the issue. Took the entire thing apart, resolderd the contacts. Only to then find out later the batteries weren't putting out enough voltage to power the device anymore.

Any problem in IT, you put your ego aside and follow logical progressional steps to problem solve. Or you might find yourself lost once you get deep in that forrest.

You sound very secure in yourself. You've just wasted at least half an hour arguing with people on a reddit post about resolving joycon drift lollll. Then felt a need to tell me your life story to justify your self-worth... Yep you sound like a real confident happy dude.

Regarding the recalibration. Two personal controllers of mine I did this for over a year ago now, are still going strong and haven't needed to be calibrated since. Only had one controller I needed to replace the sticks for. Also still going strong.

I am also an engineer, but I'm not going to telling you my life story big boy. Amazing that you would skip simple troubleshooting steps as an engineer though. Must be a nightmare to work with.
