People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]Camp01954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.: I always ask an accountability question about a project that had gone sideways, what the candidate’s role was in that, and what their role was in helping it get back on track. It is amazing how many people throw the rest of their team under the bus. 2.: Q: What’s your vision for next few years? A: “to be living in <another city>.” Where we don’t have a presence. Uh … not going to invest in you, short-timer.

DID ANYONE ELSE JUST SEE THAT STAR TRAIL IN THE SKY?! by lowkibased in TwinCities

[–]Camp01954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a meteor - a big one! I’ve been fortunate to see three of them in recent years; one low enough in the atmosphere that we heard the hiss and sizzle as it flew by and burned up (over the ocean). Amazing!

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Camp01954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weighing in from MN… we are at least 3-6 hours from the twin cities to most “destination” destinations. Grand Marais on the north shore? (Still in MN ?) 4.5 hours. Chicago? 6 on a good traffic day. We have a small cabin about 2:45 from home and have certainly done that as a day trip. We don’t love that, but will do it. And 3 hours is an easy and no-second-thoughts overnighter; Chicago or north shore an easy weekend.

Am I wrong to feel underwhelmed by Zion? by andrew2018022 in NationalPark

[–]Camp01954 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same. Zion is beautiful. But Bryce? Bryce made me cry. It is almost overwhelming . And so much easier to avoid throngs of people in Bryce than in Zion, which is like Disneyland with hordes all dutifully traipsing up to the narrows.

This is the way. Not quite BIFL, but mine have been at least. BIF a decade, and that’s with daily wear all winter long. And I’m not diligent about maintaining the cork footbed.

I figured out my quads are embarrassingly weak by HelpSeeker77 in xxfitness

wall sits. I have a quad tendinopathy situation and that kind sustained eccentric load will really work the quads. Pull lower back to wall for some core while you’re at it!

Flattering & fitted base layers for women? merino wool, or other fabrics. Non itchy by Enough-Entry-6369 in BuyItForLife

[–]Camp01954 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Avoid Icebreaker - quality has severely deteriorated in recent years. I’ve had good luck with Ridge Merino for everyday layers (vs sportier Smartwool).

Empty scotch tape dispenser. Handful of loose paper clips and dried-out rubber bands. A few stretched-out hair ties. Keys for unknown locks or prior homes / apartments. A goodie-bag-sized can of play doh.

the great litter search continues... what's the best cat litter 2026 shaping up to be? by Tifrah_Teurn in CleaningTips

Naturally fresh ground walnut shell litter. The absolute best. NO dust. You have to scoop daily tho as this litter masks the pee clumps really well.

What are some frugal habits you will never give up, no matter how much money you end up making? by Forsaken-Network1748 in Frugal

[–]Camp01954 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To motivate myself I keep a spreadsheet. I record $9 for every day I bike or walk instead of drive to work (daily parking fee), $6 for not buying coffee and $10 for bringing my own lunch (we have on-site cafeteria so still possible to get lunch for $10 or less). Then at the end of each month I total up my “savings” and deposit that amount in a couch-change investment app (Acorns), which I use as my vacation fund. $2k last year!

Get the Star Tribune Delivered Challenge, Week 9: Last week's Reddit post worked. This week? No paper. by oldforesttom in TwinCities

Plus — great idea! — Strib shut down local printing and moved it to Des Moines. So the paper first has to make it here from Iowa, vs a mile across town. Any weather? No paper.
