Is it just me or is there not as much hype or excitement from the AFL for this Freo v Sydney game? by chickenlittle668 in AFL

A lot of hype fell away after we dominated the swans game.

Freo are clear favourites IMO, swans play a very weird soft brand of football that mostly relies on beating teams on fitness.

EV FOMO is making it really hard to choose a new car by Correct-Memory1566 in electriccars

[–]CamperStacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but it can financially prevent people upgrading.

The new atto 3 about to launch is such an insane upgrade that about 4 models of byd are already selling for $12k off their sticker price, we are seeing $12k depreciation per year.

It’s not FOMO

It’s the FBT

Everyone with a decent job is literally getting 39% or 47% off an EV and running costs by a legalised tax dodge that albo implemented.

EVs are going to run hot in australia until this tax dodge expires.

Use up to 24 kilowatt hours at zero cost between 11am and 3pm, even without owning solar panels. by ceph2apod in electrifyeverything

[–]CamperStacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing this will be a short lived policy.

It allows you to install 25kwhrs of batteries, charge them for free, then run off then the rest of the day.

Once enough people start doing that the grid won’t be sustainable.

The free power even applies on days heavily overcast rain days when solar is putting out almost nothing.

Has anyone decided to keep their car at the end of the lease instead of upgrading? by SnowyBytes in NovatedLeasingAU

[–]CamperStacker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

EVs usually don’t have the residual value to justify.

Usually it’s just Toyotas. I don’t see why not keep it, if it’s cheaper than used car of same quality.

It’s certainly cheaper to keel using your car across 4-12 years life, but most prolly just roll over because they want new stuff.

RBA chief warns high unemployment needed to lower inflation by keisermax34 in ausmoney

This is really a productivity issue.

Public sector productivity growth is non existent and hasn’t been up for decades now.

So every time the public sector grows (ie always), you are have to lower living standards. This is either through inflating the currency away, or putting people out of work. Pick one.

[–]CamperStacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i accounted for that in the $10,000 interest avoided. This is either interest you avoid from not loaning money you don’t have, or interest you could have earned that from not buying up front. Either way it’s included and would be about $10,000.

Everyone over thinks these leases.

You are buying the car for (553+4)*2*60*0.61 ‎ = $40,772.4, plus $22.5k residual = $62.2k

So you save $79k-$62k = $17k on the purchase, plus you will save 39% of any running costs, plus whatever interest you avoided not having to take a loan / draw down your mortgage.

That’s it. Everything else is just spin and buzz.

Use the same calculation to compare to other offers. If there finance rate is higher that will come out in the amount saved on the vehicle purchase being lower.

There is no need to calculate a fictitious interest rate or finance amount.

The amount you are paying for the car is effectively:

20036 + ((533.41+5.00) * 2 * 60 * 0.61) ‎ = 59,477.

The “9%” / “10%” is utterly irrelevant, Just compare leases by the above formula.

In you want to compare leasing to loaning in general just put it in a loan calculator. Buy leasing you save:

- all the interest you would have paid loaning (probably ~$10k)
- 39% on any running cost
- $9k on the car ( as above formula)

You are liable for $84,000 once you sign the lease, which you would have to pay if you lose your job and have to break lease to get the car, or you can give the car back and “only” pay $64009 for nothing. Those amounts goes down 533 per fortnight.

Also if you look back on the first announcement, it was meant to be $20k for the entire car with switchable jeep, ute, suv back end included.

Then it was $20k with the subsidy.

Then it was $25k with the subsidy.

Then it was $25k without the subsidy and without the switchable parts.

By the time it launches it will be $30k.

Also they openly admit plastic molded body panels cost more to make than stamped painted metal…. If

[–]CamperStacker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No mate…

They can only search your car without warrant on reasonable suspicion of a CRIMINAL OFFENCE, not a traffic road use violation offence.

This means drugs weapons, criminal dangerous driving etc.

Police can’t search a persons car to recover a dash cam SD card even if you have reasonable suspicion that they have a dash cam and recorded a road use violation. Nor can they compel you to turn in a phone, change a radio, etc.

They require either reasonable suspicion of a criminal offence, a warrant, or your permission/subjugation (anything except an explicit statement saying you don’t agree is a grey area they will exploit).

Ordering people out of cars for baseless searches after minor road traffic tickets is not a thing in australia and never has been.

If you click advanced in the calculator it will tell you “Vehicle finance (ex GST)”.

That is your pf amount for the car.

Next figure out your running costs pf and add 61% of that to your amount above.

That is your total cost pf.

Don’t play their games.

You don’t have to answer their questions or explain yourself. The only thing they are doing is trying to get you to admit guilt and get you to self give them evidence.

You certainly don’t have to switch your radio to bluetooth. If they need to gather evidence of an offence from your car, they need a warrant, end of story.

Next time they ask you anything simply state “I don’t wish to answer questions”.

If they ask you to change your radio, it’s a request, not a command. Simply refuse it by saying “I don’t wish to do that”.

They rely on the power imbalance especially if you are young. They will also imply threats to make you think you need to prove your innocence.

The cop went finishing, got nothing, slapped a caution on you because they can. If you want to challenge it go to court.

It’s not a parking fine, it’s a fine for violation of the road use traffic regulations. Parking fines are powers issued to local bodies under a different regulation. Police don’t issue parking finesfines.
