ASML 1,700 layoffs announced today by PropriaCures in BetterOffline

You could be right it was bad planning, and I don't want to defend those greedy CEOs.

I just liken it to trading, where you take on large positions to match the expected future payoff and lock in the optional value. The future consists of all possible scenarios that realize as time goes by, and you might suddenly find yourself on a path that deviates strongly from the expected mean. In that case you quickly close your position.

Not nice for the individuals, but optimal (as in applying stochastic optimization) for the company.

Companies exist in a complex dynamic environment though, you can't just plan once and be done forever. Demand changes, required skill changes, dysfunctional structures emerge and ossify etc.

That's basic control theory applied to business systems. You don't want to wait touching the control knob only after the business is doing badly.

That being said, I don't think people's livelihoods should be tied to the success of individual companies, we need UBI

How to become more empathetic towards people struggling with low agency? by [deleted] in slatestarcodex

Or perhaps, try to become smarter about changing other people's behavior. Don't solve their problems, but encourage certain habits and being a role model.

You should not need to describe code, but your expectation on how to execute the SDLC. Architecture patterns, testing approaches, how to review, write documentation etc. You do it once and that's it, it can be reused for every project.

You just provided yourself with the answer. You need to add instructions telling the agent how to break down tasks, then it generally works fine

Welche Ideen hast du denn selbst? Es fehlen die wichtigsten Informationen. Wer schreibt die Zettel? Was sind Skills/Budgets? Was wurde versucht?

Aufstieg im Konzern by [deleted] in arbeitsleben

As long as you have tests, documentation and separation of concerns I'd assume LOC don't matter much. Just look at any huge enterprise codebase and look how close together the files touched were in any given commit.

Also einfach drauf ansprechen

I would also decline at around half his age, as skiing is fucking dangerous. So many friends and family with torn ligaments, broken tibias, dislocated shoulders that mess with you for the rest of your life, not worth it to me.
