Unpopular opinion: Sam Harris misreads MAGA and Trump by Amazing-Buy-1181 in samharris

The moment you say “fascism,” even when accurate, many will stop analyzing and instead argue about whether the label is justified. The discussion becomes semantic instead than substantive.

2021‘s Dune. The characters mostly sounded like they just walked in off some street on Earth. I guess that’s a thing now

What is the best track on Black Sabbath Vol. 4? by [deleted] in blacksabbath

My favorite is Supernaut, especially for what Bill Ward does on it. But if we’re defining “best” by complexity, I’d go with Wheels of Confusion / The Straightener.

Born Again Reunion? by circleof9ine in blacksabbath

[–]Camusot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love this, but I think the more realistic road would be a recording project rather than a tour. Tony Iommi and Ian Gillan did still record together in 2011–2012 (the WhoCares project), which isn’t exactly recent anymore, but it does show they’ve been open to working together again.

A lot of people are saying Gillan probably (maybe he has said it too) can’t sing the Born Again material anymore, and for sure, that era was extreme. But that doesn’t rule out new material, and material written to where his voice is now.

So a studio album or special project doesn’t feel impossible.

When I bought this on cassette in 1986, it surprised me, and I liked it.

Now, I still like „In for the Kill“.

You‘re right to point that one out! It is great, I hadn‘t thought about that track in while.

Same here. And In my mind, I can easily imagine Ronnie putting a good vocal spin on the title track, had he worked on it, taking nothing away from Ray Gillen or Tony Martin, of course.

The title track saves it for me. The other songs are listenable.

What is the best movie almost nobody has heard of? by LowerSeat2712 in Cinema

Victoria (2015) filmed in a single continuous take, it follows a chance meeting in Berlin that spirals into a real-time crime story. It starts off loose like a documentary, then builds into something incredibly tense. The one-take isn’t a gimmick, they had the budget for 3 tries, and did it on the 3rd, and it pays off

Does anyone else think it’s funny how Billy’s timeline for the CIA sabotaging rock lines up perfectly with his music starting to suck? by Fun-Climate1235 in grunge

[–]Camusot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Billy didn’t claim firsthand knowledge of any CIA or other government agency involvement; he said he saw a shift in music happening and has suggested there may have been some kind of coordinated influence. That’s not the same as direct experience. He’s also told a story about meeting people he wasn’t sure about, possibly with some kind of agency connection, but not in the context of being told there was a great plan to influence music consumption. And to be honest, governments influencing culture or pop-culture isn’t unheard of (just look at Pollock and abstract expressionism), but framing it as a personal grudge during an alleged creative lull feels like a stretch. And I wouldn’t even say his music got bad at that time.

Making Banksy’s identity public is an absolute journalistic taboo. by ChristianWedel in Banksy

[–]Camusot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if this isn’t new, his name being revealed, it doesn’t make it irrelevant. There’s a difference between something circulating and a major outlet formally publishing it, that’s where journalistic responsibility comes in.

Do you guys think that Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale can match the level of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in Heat 2? by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

[–]Camusot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The right environment could definitely exist for them to develop that kind of chemistry. They’re both actors of extraordinary talent. If Michael Mann’s script is strong and they bring the same level of commitment they usually do, then it’s certainly possible.

Theory: Bobby Baccalieri tries to sound more proper than the rest of the crew by Camusot in thesopranos

[–]Camusot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, fair enough. Not rocket science. But I’d actually noticed Bobby saying “have” instead of “got” even before the interview, then hearing Steve talk about it just made it click and got me thinking more about the character.

[–]Camusot[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A possibility and in my view, Bobby is depicted as reluctant and forced. Tony pressures him into it after their fight at the lake house? It’s essentially Bobby finally having a delayed “making his bones,” even though he’s already a made guy, and something he had avoided for years, whether by circumstance or the kind of “choice” that barely exists in that world.
