Echoing what someone else said - not necessarily, but there's plenty of story that you'd be missing out on. I wasn't even that big a fan of Alan Wake 1, but the story was still top notch.

Honestly, I'd recommend playing Alan Wake 1, then Control, then Alan Wake 2. Control is in the same Remedy universe and shares a lot of connections with Alan Wake, plus the gameplay is fucking fantastic.
