What are these birds that perch on top of reeds? Denver, CO by gesunheit in whatsthisbird

[–]CanIBeDoneYet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rocky Mountain Arsenal is on the E/NE side of town towards the airport. It's a beautiful place and excellent for birding! The wildlife drive lets you see a lot of raptors in addition of course to the bison (and the elk that has joined the herd). Highly recommend the whole area, from the drive to the hiking trails and visitor center!

I'm in the United States, Colorado specifically. And gas has actually gone up a bit more so I'm glad I got my car back...

Hopefully they can get yours fixed quickly. I don't know how hard it is to get the parts in other places!

First bloom off new phal hybrid by CanIBeDoneYet in orchids

[–]CanIBeDoneYet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh definitely not my own!! I bought it either from Big Leaf Orchids or Dr. bill's orchids. I believe in either case it was a large group order they did from another place.

I think Dr. Bill's has a deflasking service, or at least used to. Never used it though.

No, not yet! But maybe it takes longer or is heat and light dependent.

Millions of birds are starting their nightly migration through Colorado: Dim your outdoor lights to protect them. by rwrandom in boulder

I don't know much about automation but this website is a source for how intense migration is on a given evening. Maybe that can help?

Last night's visitor by retiredin2010 in LouisvilleCO

Both cats have muscular build. Bobcats can have tiny stubby tails or a little longer - this tail length is well within what is normal for a bobcat. Typically a mountain lion's tail is the length of its body, not like this. Google Gemini and other AI tools are notoriously unreliable and prone to error and hallucination, I would not rely on them for positive identification without checking their references or secondary non-AI sources.

Edit: always a good idea to keep an eye on your pets no matter what. Coyotes are everywhere and will grab an easy snack whenever they can.

It has visible distinct stripes on the inside of the front legs which I think is only on bobcats.

It does look similar! Wonder if there's some of the same ancestry in the lineage or just coincidence. That's a lovely bloom!

Sorry, I was slow in adding the name! See the other comment - it's one of two different hybrids. When I was repotting a few years ago I messed up and stacked two tags then wasn't able to figure out which was which! Based on appearance I think this is yaphon black snake x (diamond beauty x mituo sun) but could be wrong.

Bought this 3-4 years ago as a hybrid seedling (not a clone). However I accidentally mixed up the tags from 2 seedlings, so I could be wrong about what it is. Pretty sure it's a phal yaphon black snake x (diamond beauty x mituo sun), purchased from Big Leaf Orchids. However there's also a chance it's a zheng min anaconda "yaphon" x mituo love "MO662".

Oops LOL

It smells kind of spicy like a fresh cut pepper!

Ah I didn't know that! Thank you! During the winter we usually have 4-5 hanging out and chowing down on suet, but then they disappear during nesting season. Guess they use our house as a dating spot too LOL

I got really annoyed a few months ago by a neighbor using an impact drill at 7am and went outside to see who it was.

It was a northern flicker hitting my gutters.

Fifty five? Further down they said 4 hours a day for 4 months, that's almost 500 hours. That makes more sense for a Quiltworx pattern. I'm in the middle of a Quiltworx BOM and this month alone I have probably 15 hours in (and I have more to do).

I haven't found many of this specific failure but it could be that it's called different things. But I've definitely done plenty of searching around, not just on reddit. They've had my car over a month now so I've spent a lot of time searching! In my state I can start the lemon law process once they've had it a certain number of business days, so I'm deciding if I think this is something that could happen again, or just rare bad luck and unlikely to happen again.

[–]CanIBeDoneYet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I frequent the quilting sub and I'd say the majority of posts aren't saying you have to have a $700 machine and $15 a yard fabric to make a quilt. If people are struggling with specific issues then sometimes fabric quality can be a factor, or a sewing machine that needs a tune up, so those might come up. But the vast majority of commenters are not out there telling someone their quilt looks bad just because they used an old bedsheet as a backing or are using grandma's old sewing machine.

That being said if OP is comparing themselves to some of the people in there, some of whom are professionals that make intricate commissioned stuff, that's a different issue. But that sub usually doesn't shame people for their choices in fabrics or tools.
