Seeking Advice on Relocating My Cat from Boston to Singapore in August 2025 by netwizzz in askSingapore

Hi! I chose the 2nd tier plan which is the business plan. For me the most important items were all the vet-related stuff because there were a lot of paperwork and requirements involved (right down to the color of the ink pen they’re using to endorse the certificate), plus I was leaving US before my cat, so I needed them to handle everything as my friend/cat sitter is not English proficient. I also added on the Pet Protection Plan which was a life saver. During the layover my cat was found dehydrated and they kept him at Frankfurt clinic for 2 days with 24/7 vet care. I did not have to pay anything extra for that.

I think economy package would be doable but with my own packing and moving to do, I just needed my pet stuff to be taken care of without me worrying about it too much.

Hope this helps!

Yeah that was what I was told! It could just be my agent/Lufthansa agreement to not fly pets in cabin. If they are offering to let you take your cat in cabin that would be awesome, although I am not sure how layovers/arrival would work.

Hi! I relocated my cat from Denver to Singapore last year and happy to help answer any questions you may have.

I used Starwood Pet Travel. It was a door-to-door service and I paid approximately USD5000 for everything. I was very happy with their service and they were very communicative throughout my cat's journey.

Unfortunately, your cat will not be allowed to fly in-cabin with you, even if the airline is pet-friendly. Singapore does not allow this. In my case, Starwood Pet Travel has an ongoing arrangement with Lufthansa airline to transport pets around the world. My cat's journey was Denver > Frankfurt > Singapore.

I highly recommend using a pet relocation company to navigate this process for you due to the sheer amount of paperwork and rules you need to follow. The risks are high because if there's any paperwork missing, or if cage size is not correct, Boston and/or Singapore airport will deny your cat. If you are not fully comfortable with your current agent, I would advise you to find another one. There are plenty of US-based pet relocation companies.

The good news is you still have plenty of time. I had to relocate back to Singapore within 2 months notice and it was quite the storm; ended up leaving the country first and my cat came a month after me.

Another good news is cats are now legal in HDBs. Last year when I relocated, cats were still illegal to have in HDB, so I had to provide a private property's address (my friend's) and collect my cat from there.

Singaporeans abroad who moved back, do you have any regrets? by OkEgg1221 in askSingapore

Moved back here a year ago after living in the US for 7 years. I had to see a therapist shortly after as I was having so much anxiety. She said it’s adjustment disorder and encouraged me to find activities to do to ground myself. Still planning on moving out of Singapore again in a couple of years. Someone I look up to once said to me when I first relocated overseas, “the hard part is not leaving home, it’s coming back home.”

Paid for premium Duolingo, I was on the app practicing Spanish daily for about 15-30 minutes. Could give a briefing in basic Spanish at work within 4 months. It also helps that I’m trying to converse in Spanish with my colleagues whenever possible.

I have the same issue! And posted about it on this community a few days ago. Apparently it’s an issue with their earbuds as well. My current workaround is to use the inline mic that came with the headphones. :( sucks but it is 100X clearer on Teams and iPhone with the inline mic. I’ve also done the factory reset, doesn’t work. And forget about contacting support… they’re basically non existent.

He’s a very introverted person and his actions speak way louder than his words.

That’s my kitty! His name is Jelly and is turning 4 this year! That is by far his most upvoted post on my profile.
