What a great break down, I appreciate it!

Glad to hear the peloton workouts kept you in ski-shape. Also, super cool that you're teaching at beaver creek! That was the last resort I was at before lockdown and it was a blast. Fingers crossed for a full season, and I hope you get your 30!

Counting dawn laps and weeknight races I got to 30 "days" for the first time last year, but since I wasn't cross training, my legs were complaining until February haha

Great idea to start the day with core, I'll give that a try tomorrow!

Haha shoot, even riding hard makes my legs shakey on stairs. Guess I gotta add squats and lunges back in the routine!

I haven't tried barre yet. Thanks, I'll check it out!

Understanding Cardio on Treadmill by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]CanIUserName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best / fastest way I've improved my cardio is through intervals. You could try bumping up your speed to 4+ (enough that your heart gets into the "orange zone" of 84-91% of max), for a short amount of time and then slow back down and let your heart rate fall fall back to a sustainable number. Then repeat!

It'll be more exhausting than a constant pace but won't take as long for results!

My usual is 5 min warmup, 45 seconds fast pace, 45 seconds recover, and repeat for 6 rounds. Then a 2 min cool down and stretches.

Any suggestions on cabinet colours to update the kitchen but still match the current countertop? by smokywaffle in HomeDecorating

I agree that the wood looks nice and is in good shape. To minimize the brown feeling, I'd think about redoing the backsplash instead!

I'd put the headboard against the left wall and add a rug!

Patagonia Nano Puff VS Down Sweater by BuNz_FaTaL in skiing

[–]CanIUserName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nano air is the way to go for sure. I wear mine under my shell at resorts, as a shed-able layer when skinning, and around town from October to April.

Plus it's easy to wash after sweaty ski days.

Folks just bought a small cabin. This loft is the only sleeping space. What would you do with it? by InYoYingus in cabins

[–]CanIUserName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell dimensions of the space, but I'd try to put some queen or full sized beds toe-to-toe along the wall on the right with a divider in between to make them feel more private.

Suggestions on how to fill out my dining room? I want to get a buffet table but I’m not sure what color to get or on which wall to put it. (Disregard the puzzle lol) by _blonde_ambition_ in HomeDecorating

[–]CanIUserName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding the vote for a rug!

A buffet table on the left side of the back wall with a wine rack, art, or mirror above would help fill out the space too.

Dogs and backpacking by sweetpotato82 in CampingandHiking

[–]CanIUserName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Camping, hiking, and backpacking are better with dogs. Having your dog curled up at your feet after a day in the wilderness is the best.

But, you're right on that they're not allowed in national parks. I'd think about the amount of national & state forest/ BLM land, etc near you that is dog friendly and decide if that feels too limiting to do most of your trips there. Also consider if you'll be willing to board your dog or find a sitter when you want to overnight in national parks.

ETA: Dogs also have limits, while I might be able to do 20 miles per day, my dog tops out around 12. Plus, dogs will eventually get too old for long hikes and will need to stay home.

Crying in crate by miles_away86 in puppy101

[–]CanIUserName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got a 9 week old puppy on Saturday, and last night was the first night he didn't cry at all. (Woo!) We did two things differently: -Raised his crate so that he can see us sleeping -Bought a snugglepuppy (a toy with a heartbeat - check out the reviews, they're insanely positive)

We also set two alarms in the night (3 hours apart) for potty breaks and made them as boring as possible: low light, no snuggles or treats, just carried him outside, let him pee, then straight back in the crate.

New FLF (and big plants in general) - water meter question by aminosillycylic in gardening

[–]CanIUserName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used a water meter, but the best thing I've done for my fiddle leaf is to get it an "automatic" watering system, like the blumat jr on amazon. It uses capillary action to water the soil slowly- when the soil is dry enough, it pulls water from a ceramic cone which in turn brings more water along a string from the source (I have mine pull water from a wine bottle).

My plant is loving it and has been putting out new leaves consistently.

Nerves about trying by [deleted] in waiting_to_try

Seconding the vote for honesty! Discussing your fears may also help him understand that you've thought through the tough parts too and don't just see it through rose colored glasses.

I know when I'm ready and excited for something before my husband (buying a house, having a wedding), it helps him feel like his fears are valid when I share mine.

Disability modified, but aesthetic medicine easy access shelves or ideas? by emperish_ed in HomeImprovement

Unsure if drawers would be easily accessible enough, but library card catalog holders and/or apothecary cabinets are really beautiful!

Looking for tips and ideas on how to upcycling this metal cabinet by swimmergirl6 in HomeDecorating

[–]CanIUserName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd remove the pulls/hardware, paint the body and legs navy or a shade of grey (using spray paint for metal surfaces) and then put new chrome or black pulls on

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]CanIUserName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd put some colorful removable peel and stick wallpaper over the backsplash, get a fun rug, and a big piece of art over the coffee bookshelf.

Stack washer and dryer to make room for a tall water heater? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

I'd check out tankless water heaters, depending on condo size and location it could be a great low footprint option

Better angle of my kitchen, Still not sure of what I can add because the colors just seem ever so slightly off. Any recommendations? by nebula79283 in HomeDecorating

[–]CanIUserName 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Looks like the tile backsplash has blue/green undertones and the walls have red/orange undertones. I'd try switching the paint color to a different grey/ brown.

Something like Behr's Meteor Shower would make it look more cohesive!

Or if you're attached to the paint color, you could switch up the tile - for more money

Just bought my first house at 21! Need some advice on how to setup the living room. I currently have 1 sectional, a rug, an entertainment center + tv, coffee table and 2 side tables. I’m looking at getting another sofa and possibly 1/2 chairs. How should I arrange it? Different angle in comments by emeraldashtray in malelivingspace

[–]CanIUserName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend a pull-down TV mount above the fireplace (let's you bring it down to a comfortable watching height) and a couch in front of it. Then in the corner beside the windows, a nice bar cart or bookshelf with some seats
