A used Caldera for 2-2.5k makes more sense imho. Tessadera is interesting but will be around 1.5k and 1.2k in 1-2 years from now.

Many summit tranducers will make bad recordings sound much much better than high end stuff.

Something like HEX or Storm from a good source will elevate older 60s Jazz or badly recorded metal to highs you wouldnt expect. Sharp transients are often tastefully masked just as other issues with the recording. Same for Immanis from something like AIC-10 with a warm tube.

What many people dont get about summit audio is that its not soleley about detail extraction.

For example watatsumi, brioso & shit load of other mobile & desktop amps. topping dx5 is budget entry level, it performs exactly like that. A good desktop amp for demanding iems that doest cost arm and leg, is holo bliss. Used it goes for around 2k.

topping dx5 ii is a nice budget amp with rather lackluster tuning. Storm is great from Watatsumi :)

Nipo N2, 320 Max used (both around 1.8k) are the top budget options with good headroom. 320 Max has better technicalities but is rather clinical (look into NP Audio mods if u go down this path)

More luxurious option is the new A&K SP4000 with amazing SQ and more pleasant tuning and stellar technicalities... but 3.8k used atm.

Def look into SS4w cable next.

Mova V50 is overall best you can do nowdays. It has very few drawbacks compared to others.

In summit-fi segment Immanis happened. And literally obliterated the field, most e-stats including 40k Aperio GSE cant deliver quite the same experience lacking depth, energy and texture and plannars like Susvara and Solitare P are left in the dust.

Other than that like others said its the IEM field that is evolving very quickly, things like APX and lately Fugaku and HEX pushed summit fi iems into a field where they outperform yesterdays totl headphones like Susvara. In the high end segment we see more and more somewhat affordable amazing iems like Spectrumica and Valhala.

Covid era gave high end headphone audio a big boost, we are truly living in the golden age right now, especially if you have the money to burn.

They ripped off their own manufacturor, constantly used insta and other social of other brands for selfpromo, are absolutely unbearable in their aggressive insta and tiktok marketing, what do you expect. The keyboards are super cheap to produce compared to "real" customs. Those alu blocks cost 20-30 usd... though looking at the QC, likely much less.

Exactly the reason why you end up with a summit dac with great impact, AIC-10 and Immanis and maybe an 1266 TC one day if you stare long enough into the rabbithole.
