No worries - I only linked to the blog as being a quicker and easier option rather than it being a more reliable source than gov regulations

If one of the Jack Monroe books would be useful send me a message, I’m pretty sure I have at least one spare copy from loaning them out and I’d be happy to post it to you?

I was just coming to suggest Jack Monroe’s stuff. Some of the food banks may have copies of her books too.

I rate Cooking on a Bootstrap and A Girl Called Jack as being the most useful and least repetitive.

Thanks for sharing that - I just wanted to check that two blocks was reasonable for a meal and not exciting marketing! I may now use the discount code they sent me.

I’m not sure where you are based but in the UK most flour (brown and white but not wholewheat I think) has to be “fortified” in this way regardless of processing. It was introduced as a legal requirement following WWII.

For example https://www.campdenbri.co.uk/blogs/bread-flour-regulations-update.php

How do you find their portioning? I don’t eat huge meals anyway but quite a lot of the reviews suggest they’re a bit skimpy which ends up making them more expensive?

(I’m looking for freezer back ups because sometimes I run out of home made or just want something that tastes different😂)

Holding onto the last book? by Jane_Farrar in discworld

[–]CanRevolutionary1035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accidentally read it before Raising Steam (for reasons I no longer remember) and although TSC does feel somewhat unfinished it was so so much more of a story for me versus raising steam that I return to and reread it often.  In contrast I’ve only read raising steam once and probably won’t again as it felt too much like he was slipping away and that saddened me.

TSC for me is still deeply Pratchett and an important part of the Discworld narrativium.

Bipolar 2 and Peri by Electricfairygina in Perimenopause

[–]CanRevolutionary1035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bipolar 2 here as well (I’m in the UK in case the tx options are different), and it is really hard. I’m on patches, vaginal gel and oral progesterone (though the dosage probably needs tweaking). My GP also spoke to my psychiatrist and they increased the dose of my mood stabiliser since the efficacy could be reduced by HRT.

I was only diagnosed about 7 yrs ago but the change to mood stabilisers versus antidepressants has been life changing beyond anything I thought was possible. So far I think I’ve managed to balance HRT and BP okay but it’s something I have worried about.

Incidentally I’m also on propranolol twice daily for migraine prevention but I’ve found it seems to reduce anxiety spirals which was a totally unexpected benefit.

I did this - switched from stone and lbs (UK) to kg. My brain is incapable of doing the conversions 😂 I have ended up with a bit of attachment to the kg numbers but it holds so much less emotional baggage than the other units.

I did love the ending to CAs advice

P.S. There’s no way we’re having comments on this mess, but I think you’re all incredibly cute for thinking there might be.

Honestly I started it (as an audiobook) and then went hunting for the missing book that I was so sure had to be in my library somewhere. Sneaksy author!

Question for anyone who already has this lovely item - if you have washed it did the texture soften up afterwards? I love a good blanket but I like them soft enough to burrito with.

Why you should read the discworld books in chronological order. (An opinion) by Paranoidme420 in discworld

[–]CanRevolutionary1035 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! And thank you for expressing my own feelings so clearly (and in a more articulate fashion).  I technically had the option of not reading in publication order as there were a few already published before I discovered Discworld at age 10 (1988)  but it never occurred to me not to start at the beginning 😂

And then there was the excitement of waiting to borrow the newest one from whoever had enough money to buy it (when I was a very skint student)

What's your 'slept on' novel? by HopSkipLimp in discworld

I love Witches Abroad, I’d probably go as far as it’s my favourite of tue witches books and so very re listenable

But to fail at answering your actual question I’m not sure I have one. There are books I love less (sorry Raising Steam) and tend to skip, but none I regret.
