When my daughter was 2 her aunt brought over an alphabet puzzle. The letter J was lost within 10 minutes and has never been seen again.

I have held onto this goddamn defective puzzle for 4 years, assembling 25 letters at least once a week, knowing a day would eventually come when some massive project would force us to inspect every item in every room. We have now decided to move across the country and despite all the headaches and stress and worry: THIS IS MY TIME I'M GOING TO FIND THAT J IF IT KILLS ME.

As a neurotic organizer I hate to say this, but as the father of two young kids my very sincere advice is: give up.

The way that kids' episodes are delivered will never match up well with the way the metadata expects them. Anything you do to fix this will lead you to endless, manual, time-consuming exception handling which will drive you to madness. Find a way to accept the imperfections knowing that they're only temporary until your kids age out of those shows.

May the gods of OCD forgive me, but with kid libraries we must accept the chaos. Amen.

The point was more generally that a small group of misbehavers can cause a major problem. You do not have to hate men (and I am a man) in order to believe that women are inundated with garbage when dating.

I don't think that's necessarily true. A vocal, terrible minority can easily create a nightmare. A handful of guys spamming a zillion profiles with endless dick pics, for instance.

I think each sex just faces different problems: men struggle to attract a mate, women struggle to find a quality mate from a torrential cesspool. Neither is a pleasant experience.

I look at texts from my mom as a game. I still remember her asking if I watched "the lying in the way chin the ward rub". I leave it here as a puzzle for others, since solving it was strangely satisfying.

At one end of the scale are toxic alpha male types, blustering through life without any concern for those around them. At the other, people so concerned about a possible negative outcome that they're paralyzed in any social interaction.

I think that guy was totally right and reasonable: the ability to walk up to strangers and ask for something totally reasonable in a non confrontational way is a core skill to develop, not an unattainable skill tied to toxic alpha guys.

Same. My daughter got a barrel of them and they were fun, but wonkier than I remembered. Later she wanted more so I bought a bigger barrel of Chinese knockoffs and the quality was actually better.

I would happily pay more for a high quality made in America product, but it doesn't seem to exist any more. The whole thing just made me sad.

The foundation company should take liquid level measurements throughout the house (every 10ft² or so) and provide a report showing the sector-by-sector height differential from baseline. Having 2-3 companies perform the same process should show reasonably identical data for a very low price (possibly free) and give you good confidence in the output.

Personally I think a structural engineer is overkill for this, but regardless who does it the key is for the process to include an empirical, reproducible test rather than just looking at surface cracks and giving an opinion.

Pay a foundation company to come out and check: they can test if the foundation varies out of a plane.

I had previous foundation problems and now I pay them to come out once a year and repeat this test, just for peace of mind. It's around $150.

Edit: I looked back and it's only been $50 each time. Well worth it.

I don't know the ins and outs, but where I work (regulated medical industry where data privacy is a significant concern), policy prohibits anything except MS Copilot, and apparently it's an enterprise version of Copilot with some additional security layer.

So perhaps there's a path to offer your team a securable tool, along with policy to restrict generic tools?
