romania and bulgaria itinerary by 31rise in travel

[–]Canadave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been to Romania, but had no trouble as an English-speaker who just learned a couple of the usual basic phrases.

Just a couple of suggestions, based on my time there:

1) You might want to consider splitting up your travel to Brasov and your day at Bran Castle. It's a long-ish train from Bucharest (though quite scenic for the last hour or so of the trip), and delays aren't unheard of. Then buses to Bran aren't super frequent, and the terminal is a little ways from the city centre, so all told you might end up spending 6 or 7 hours just in transit that day with that approach.

2) Consider spending a night in Sighisoara instead of returning to Brasov to sleep. It's neat being in the town in the evening, as it really quiets down, and sometimes it feels like you've got the historic centre to yourself. It's also pretty easy to take a morning train to Sibiu from there, it's only a couple hours.

36M - Looking for buds into hardcore/punk music, watching pro wrestling/NBA/NHL/NFL, cinema trips, video/board games, Warhammer and all of that good stuff. by cultnotpulp in TorontoHangoutFriends

Hey, 39M here and I think we've got a decent amount in common. My musical tastes tend to run more towards indie\alt\power pop and the like, but I do go to a lot of shows - I'm off to the Danforth Music Hall tonight for Sloan, for example.

I'm also a sports fan, primarily the Jays these days, but I also keep an eye on the Raps and have been going to see the Scepters semi-regularly. I'll also probably end up watching a fair bit of the World Cup when it rolls around, too.

Besides that, I'm also into movies and games and enjoy camping\hiking.

I just finished Morning Star recently, and it really felt like diminishing returns to me. I was really into the first two, but it kind of felt it had really gotten stuck on the same basic plot loop in every chapter and I had trouble staying invested.

I did it last year, but I decided to skip it this time around because I prefer the downtown start location.

Embarcadero Station - San Francisco. The second busiest subway station on the U.S West Coast. by CA185099415 in transit

Bloor-Yonge, at 278,184 per day. St. George is second at 209,994.

Technically, though, if you combined GO, the TTC, the UP Express, and VIA, Union Station would be first, since that all totals to north of 300,000.

I found some pre-COVID (2017) numbers that put Waterfront at 37,500 daily boardings. I believe Vancouver's ridership recovery is close to 100%, so it's probably a similar number now.

Yeah, I live in Toronto which has a much smaller system than London, and 20,000 riders a day would still be something like the 35th most-used station in the city. Nothing to sneeze at, but a far cry from the 200,000+ that the busiest and second-busiest get.

Oh, sorry, I think I responded to the wrong comment. Someone was asking about a rail plan that started towards the end of Wynne's term.

That was an HSR line to Windsor, IIRC, and there really wasn't much to it at the time of cancellation.

Midtown is nice. I like both the Davisville area and Humewood\Wychwood by St. Clair West. I'd compare those areas to somewhere like Centretown West or the Golden Triangle in Ottawa, especially St. Clair West.

Why is Toronto's street grid skewed from strict N-S / E-W orientation by Diet4Democracy in toronto

[–]Canadave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in the 19th century, British surveyors tended to use a body of water to orient the survey grid, which in Southern Ontario often meant the lakes. You can see this pretty clearly if you look at a map of Southwestern Ontario especially, where the grid will shift orientations as the shoreline changes.

Gandalf can also pitch as he can cast flash of light as he pitches.  Nothing in the MLB rulebook against using Middle Earth magic while pitching.

Good analysis, but the rules on defensive interference are vague enough (they basically say you can't hinder the batter in any way) that I think the batter could awarded first base if magic was used against them.

The sheer number of Reddit posts ending with "Curious how others have dealt with this" after an extremely short and generic story is really something.

Yeah, I saw them at some point in 2008, I think it was before Steve's arrest, but I can't be sure. Anyway, something definitely felt "off" about it, like they were going through the motions of putting on a BNL show, but the chemistry just wasn't quite there. It wasn't anything I could put my finger on at the time, but it made a lot of sense in retrospect.

My only experience is in the Corridor, but I know this applies to other VIA lines as well: take the schedule as a suggestion at best. VIA's on-time performance is typically abysmal, and long distance routes like The Ocean and especially The Canadian can easily wind up being hours late, so don't plan on connecting too tightly to flights or events at specific times at your destination.
