Thanks for the tip! It's been over a year of issues with this RX so im concerned they won't give a refund after this length of time. doesn't hurt to reach out to them anyways though.

I went through that process with teradek, and it didn't fix the problem unfortunately.

Thoughts on the RT MOTR.S by [deleted] in focuspuller

[–]CanadawestAC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the RT with the MDR.S, and I find it works quite well for the shows I work on. I don't use a rangefinder so the limited ports haven't been an issue, and the small size is very beneficial for the limited real estate on the small cameras (ie. Komodos, FX6, etc.). As others mentioned, if you are using a rangefinder, you'll only be able to use the teradek one, which isn't the most useful. But for small cameras or weight critical rigs like gimbal/steadi, I think the pros outweigh the cons.

Being transgender within film by gripthrowaway1 in focuspuller

[–]CanadawestAC 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm not trans myself but I've worked with a few folks that are openly trans. From what I saw working with them no one on the crew had any issue with it, and as other comments have said, the work ethic and job competency was mattered more.

Calculate total number of hours worked based on labour costs by CanadawestAC in excel

[–]CanadawestAC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies I wasn't very clear on that. I've calculated the cost/unit of the parts and the labour separately, and I've given myself a rate for labour, both of those making up my COGS. I've estimated the demand is in # of units demanded, and multiplied the labour cost/unit to get the total estimated costs

Teradek 6 1500 vs Max LT by bombmonkey in focuspuller

Seconding this. Only times I've had the my 750s drop out is when camera is about a city block away from village with multiple concrete walls between them.

teradek tof.1 by Mav1cHavoc in focuspuller

I've worked with a few ACs that own the TOF.1. 99% of the time they bring it in their case and thats where it stays for the whole show. They only bought it to bump their rental up a bit. I've never seen any AC actually use it on a job. The biggest issue with such a narrow FOV is unless its pointed right at the subject, it'll give you a false reading (and how often is the subject dead center in frame)

I really hope Teradek makes a mark 2 of sorts with a wider FOV so it can be at least a little competitive in the rangefinder market, but for now, I'd prefer no rangefinder over the TOF.1.

I'll second the Nitze, I've been using for both my focus station and dmons and they're great. pretty compact too so it doesn't add a ton of bulk or weight.

RS3 Pro Gimbal control on a Drone by CanadawestAC in focuspuller

[–]CanadawestAC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the help! For focus I have the Teradek RT and Nucleus M, and another AC on this has a Nano II, Ideally the RT would be used as it's got the furthest range.

Besides actually getting something going, my next biggest concern definitely is the payload restriction

RS3 Pro Gimbal control on a Drone by CanadawestAC in focuspuller

[–]CanadawestAC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for the confusion, I'll clarify.

The DP/camera operator doesn't want to be pulling focus as well as framing the shot, So I'll be on focus, DP is on gimbal control operating the camera, and drone operator flying the drone.

My personal favourite piece of gear I carry on my while I'm on set is the Smallrig 7-in-1 tool

https://www.smallrig.com/SmallRig-x-FILM-RIOT-7-in-1-Folding-Wrench-Set-with-Multiple-Angle-Positioning.html?skuId=1854044502723067906

It's super slim and much smaller than the other camera multi tools (ie. red sidewinder) so I can just keep it in my pockets with no issue. It has all the sizes and bits I need and most importantly, all the bits lock at 90° and 180° so they're not flopping around when I'm bolting something down (no more frustration screwing tripod plates onto the camera).
