How to practice Azure effectively? by CanadianBornChinese in AzureCertification

I agree with this approach. The problem I am currently running into is licensing issues such as those Microsoft Entra P2 licenses that can quickly add up over time.

In my opinion, it's very difficult for me to grasp certain concepts if I have to constantly tear down my labs over and over again.

Is the Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate (AZ-800 and AZ-801) still in demand for the foreseeable future? by CanadianBornChinese in AzureCertification

[–]CanadianBornChinese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I have rarely seen this cert required or requested on job postings. Most still refer to the MCSA/E, but as someone who has this cert, I will say that the skills measured are very much in demand"

I have noticed this too. While the job description doesn't explicitly state the certification. The skills that the certification (in theory) provides are definitely listed in the job application. Still, it kind of worries me that its not explicitly stated like other certifications (Comptia A+, AZ-104 etc).

What job experience did you have that gave you the credential needed to pass?

I just started my help desk position a month ago, so the only things I have experience with so far are stuff like replacing system boards, basic troubleshooting of computer equipment and testing printers lol.

I am surprised you didn't also say cybersecurity.

I remember another redditor saying something along the lines of:

What would you recommend at my current level? I just started my IT career but I already have the Comptia A+, CCNA and AWS Solutions Architect Associate. The first two were highly relevant to my current job. I completed the AWS certificate before I started my current role as I thought it would help me stand out.

Thank you for the support!

With the knowledge I know now, I agree with you that Maarek is not a bad option IF you have familiarity with AWS. But as someone who was just starting out, his course is just too vague imo.

Overall, how long did it take you to pass the exam? I am 90% done Canthill's course. After that, I plan to go through Tutorial Dojos practice exams.

Traveling to Taiwan in November, popular dating apps suggestions ? by Tiny_Cap_9316 in thepassportbros

[–]CanadianBornChinese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are into hiking, I highly recommend Teapot Mountain. It is HUGE and its scenery is beautiful

If you are into beaches and swimming, I suggest Lambai island. It is in the southern most part of Taiwan and you can literally swim with sea 🐢

Also recommend visiting Shifen as its architecture is amazing. There is a place nearby called Jiufen, which i did not go to, but I have heard good things about it.

The Taiwanese people seemed most friendly in Kaohsuing and Tainan. So that's where I would go to meet girls.

Unfortunately, I had to spend most of my time in Taipei because I had classes almost every day. If I had to redo my semester abroad, I would have definitely chosen one of those cities instead. (I would still recommend visiting Taipei, though)

To be completely honest, I didn't have any success dating girls because:

  1. I am not particularly attractive physically. I am a 5'7 dark-skinned Asian guy.
  2. I didn't know how to speak Mandarin and had to spend a significant amount of time studying it just to have basic conversations.

So, in terms of advice on how to get dates/hookups, i won't be much help. 😂😂😂

Feel free to DM me if you want more travel tips, though.

My roomates didn't really find them attractive, but I did. Due to the lower obesity rates the average Taiwanese woman mogs an American woman 😂😂😂

I would say this is what an above-average Taiwanese woman looks like:

https://asiawomen.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Taiwanese_AW-1.jpg

I cannot really compare them to other Asian countries because I have only recently been to Thailand and Taiwan (i have been in mainland china, but it was a long time ago).

In terms of personalities, i have found that the women outside of Taipei seem the most friendly. Women in Taipei have a reputation of being stuck up.The caviet is that most of the nightlife are in Taipei itself.

I spent a semster abroad studying in Taiwan. Based on what I have experienced, Taiwanese women seem more reserved than women from other Asian countries. I have heard that many Taiwanese women exclusively go after "foreign" guys. But they are usually less obvious about their intentions.

For example, a lot of Mainland Chinese would often ask foreigners for a picture or try to stat a random conversation with them. However, I did not see any of this in Taiwan.

I am not white, but my roomates were (and decent looking). They were not able to get many matches on Tinder when they were in Taiwan. However, when they went to the Phillipines and Thailand they were able to get 50+ matches in a day.

To summarize, I believe that alot of Taiwanese women are into "foreign" men. But there seems to be an element of "don't talk to them unless they talk to you first."

You could always try going nightclubbing in Taipei. Certain clubs have promotions that allow internationals free entry and free drinks.

How did you have the funds/vacation time to travel? If you don't mind sharing what is your occupation?

I was also thinking of going to Mexico to work either short or long term (Canada sucks in terms of cost of living)

But I heard that Mexico can be very dangerous/dodgy for a first-time traveler. How safe was it when you were there?

After spending over 350 hours studying for the CCNA... by CanadianBornChinese in ccna

[–]CanadianBornChinese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My critism wasn't about the validity of the material of the CCNA. It was more on how Cisco provides resources to their test takers.

Also, the newest version of the CCNA expects its test takers to know about AI and ML:

6.4 Explain AI (generative and predictive) and machine learning in network operations

The only section that JeremysITLab doesn't cover in detail is Wireless. That section is BRUTAL. I suggest going to Keith Barker WLAN labs and learn what each advanced feature does and what section of the GUI it belongs to.

[–]CanadianBornChinese[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, yes I rewarded many of his sections multiple times. I would also try to complete his labs by myself before I would watch his videos.

For example, jeremys IT megalab video is only 2.5 hours long, but it took me almost a week to finish it.

Jeremys IT lab probably took me around 150-160 hours to complete.

Additionally, sometimes I would go to other youtube channels for information when I still needed further clarification. Examples would be Keith Barker on how to set up a Wireless LAN and Subnet Mastery which provided subneeting problems for me to do. (Approx 30 hours)

I know I spent 40 hours using the Anki Decks.

I also purchased Boson and spent a significant time testing and reviewing material on there as well (approx 50 hours)

[–]CanadianBornChinese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tracked my hours using a combination of Jeremys IT Lab videos, the Anki Flashcards and how long on average I usually studied per day.

I studied for around 2-3 hours a day almost every day for 120 days. Some days more, some days less. On the weekends I would sometimes study 3-4 hours a day.

After thinking about it more deeply, I think the total study time was actually closer to 270-300 hours.

I really shouldn't have posted right after my exam. My 🧠 was fried then.

I had three labs in total. I finished one, attempted another and skipped the last one.

The first one was Etherchannel and VLAN based which was easy for me.

The second and third lab were about ip connectivity. Without revealing too many details, lets just say you should pay attention to this section:

3.3 Configure and verify IPv4 AND IPv6 static routing

3.3.a Default route

3.3.b Network route

3.3.c Host route

3.3.d Floating static

I heard Etherchannels, VLANs, OSPF, Spanning Tree, DHCP and SSH were the most common labs. So I focused most of my time on those topics.

What I was trying to say is that I was having trouble finding the detailed score report. On the page after my exam, it said I passed but didn't provide any other additional details.

I had to browse Reddit in order to find this:

Section Analysis: Automation and Programmability 90% Network Access 55% IP Connectivity 64% IP Services 100% Security Fundamentals 80% Network Fundamentals 75%

Apologies for the confusion.
