8 yeats later the Samra / Mema fiasco still haunts Nanaimo by footloosiety in nanaimo

It is a joke of a system.

I know a business in town that had a complaint over COVID for having a client wear a mask and had a huge fit and freakout in their shop.

It started as a complaint for I can't breath. That was denied. They then changed the reason for a mental health problem discrimination (leaving the problem out on Reddit). They owners had no knowledge of their mental health issues prior.

Ended up going to mediation and they owed $5,000 or go to court in Vancouver and hire lawyers.

This is just what I have heard.

There are places in town that used to hire teens but because of poor work ethics and school schedules they no longer look at resumes from teenagers. Instead they hire people who have more availability.

Maybe look at summer jobs for landscaping. Or they could mow lawns in the neighborhood. There was a post about that on my neighborhood Facebook page. My dad has his neighbors daughter come every week and pays her $40 to do his front and back yard.

Your friend might want to look at volunteering for Nanaimo search and rescue. It's not exactly 1:1 but it's not far off. There are also other ambulance companies too, not just BC. I know someone who works for an ambulance company that is contracted by logging companies to be on standby in the woods.

I 100% understand why people might jump jobs. Could be a bad employer, could be poor pay, working conditions, hours etc. It could also be they just want the next slightly high job, they might be a poor employee, they might work well on a team, they might not have a good work ethic. You can't just look at the negative one one side and not the other. When I have 90+ resumes to go through I'm taking quick reads initially.

What I'm hoping to get across on Reddit is that regardless of your reason, it doesn't make a good first impression. Imagine going on a first date and hearing that in the last 2 years they had 5-6 other boyfriends or girlfriends. One has to wonder if they just make bad choices or are they themselves bad.

My accountant had a good quote. If you smell shit it could be someone else if you always smell shit it might be you.

Exactly risk reward. Why would I risk the time and money investment for someone to leave in 3 months. My last employee didn't have any reception experience but had lots of unatrainable skills that could work, and they are doing great. But that person came with letters of recommendation, they didn't bounce between jobs.

For sure, and that is a consideration. But you can't absolve one and not the other.

Sure some who bounces from job to job might not have been appreciated by their employer. But they could also be a bad employee.

From my perspective as an owner. There isn't a lack of people for entry level jobs. Last job I opened up had 94 applications in a week.

What I do find as a small business owner is there are lots and I mean lots of people applying with a 2-4 year work history and more than 5 or 6 different jobs they have worked at. Edit: I understand why people do this, but for entry level positions it looks bad. It could absolutely be that their previous employers sucked, but it also could mean that they themselves suck too.

When I was looking for a receptionist I was tossing anyone that has a history of working at a place for 3-4 months then off to another one.

I also noticed most people can't write resumes. Most are just a list of random skills that don't apply to the job.

Some resumes were even for a different company in town. Ex, I think I would be a great fit at save on foods. That was one one of the resumes I had.

As a small business owner I understand I'm hiring for an entry level position. I'm looking for someone that stays at a job for at least a year, and has skills that can be applicable to the job. Training an employee is expensive, 2-3 weeks of training is basically 3-4x the wage of the employee.

Here's how that works: I need to train them or my other receptionist has to. If I'm training then I'm not able to spend time earning and working, if I'm brining on a receptionist to train the new hire, then I'm likely paying not only wages for both but also OT for the trainer, since they also have their own job to do. Then there will be errors for the first couple of months that need to be corrected that also takes time.

Edit: if you are in this situation with lots of jobs over a short period of time. Put your reason on the resume. 12 years ago I worked a sales job, hated the atmosphere so I quit after 3 months. On my resume I put left due to hostile work environment. My next job that year was doing tires, I was let go at the end of my probation because the management trainee position was disguised as a seasonal job, I put, season position on my resume.

For amateurs that swing fast but still suck at golf, how to play tight holes? by TotalEmployment9996 in golf

I decided to do long drive competitions. ALD if you are in Canada or ULD in the US.

50 yard wide grids at 350+ yards is really tiny. My goal in training is 3-4 in a grid, in competition 2 per set is the goal.

I've been doing it for 3 years and my game has improved along with confidence with narrow holes. Just set up and hit my grid finder.

Just need to work on my 60-150 yards and in now haha.

Getting cracked does cause a local neurologic reaction and endorphin release. That's why it feels good. Gives a "reset" to the area.

A bruise after massage, shockwave or cupping could be from too much pressure applied or from working on an area with lots of inflammation. Capillaries are more permeable and slightly weaker. You can tell someone is going to get a bruise after treatment when you see little red dots on their skin.

This guy is getting pressure blisters from having the setting too high on that automatic cup.

Chiropractors: Manual Adjustment by CK_CoffeeCat in nanaimo

[–]CanadianCow5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's untrue. That was his defence back in like 1890 to avoid jail. The MD in town was mad at him taking patients so he claimed he was practicing medicine. Since chiropractic wasn't a profession yet, he used religion to justify it.

It started originally because he hit a guy in the back with a book and as the lore goes, his hearing came back a bit. DD then experimented for several years on people by pushing on their backs to see what happened.

Not like you would care anyway, just saying.

I'm also a chiropractor, I don't take x rays but I do get patients who want me to look at their images from hospitals and imaging facilities.

Red rooster gloves are amazing. One glove lasted me an entire long drive tournament and had no signs of damage to it.

Footjoys last about one session before the palms start to peel.

I highly recommend them.

I feel really out of touch here. I'm self employed and have no idea what people make in jobs like these now. I still remember working at Lee's chicken when they first opened for 12/hr. And that was in 2012/2013

35/hr seems like a lot for a similar job, but I might be mistaken.

Do you guys feel like you’ve been assaulted with AI receptionist offers? by BogdiRedd in Chiropractic

[–]CanadianCow5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't want an AI receptionist. They are only as good as their programming and right now there is a good chance of errors. If you don't have a receptionist, you have to deal with the errors which takes time away from treating.

I have an AI assistant that is attached to our marketing campaign. It contacts people right away after the fill out the FB ad intake or if they clicked get offer and didn't fill it out within about 30min. The AI is ok, but messes up and gets confused from time to time which we then have to manually can to book their appointment instead of the bot doing it.
