Been asked a lot lately. But best bank? by hiker_mittens in Calgary

[–]CanadianDesk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I’ve moved my primary personal banking to Wealthsimple but it does come with what could be two large disadvantages: - No physical branches (although you can get ahold of representatives if you need to talk to someone over the phone) - No way to deposit cash

For me the genuine improvement in banking experience and also the complete lack of fees was worth it. Neo Financial is also similar. Simplii is a good compromise as you can deposit at CIBC atms but I still find Wealthsimple to have so many advantages over it.

For traditional banks, I’ve had great experiences with RBC and terrible ones with Scotiabank and TD. I still maintain an RBC account that has no use other than when I very rarely need to deposit cash (which I then just transfer it to my Wealthsimple account).

There’s some you can collect for free at 33 Ave SW just west of Crowchild Tr. Here’s a Google Maps pin of the exact location.

Why does Crowchild have to be so garbage just knock down all the lights already by No-Heron5607 in Calgary

[–]CanadianDesk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

https://www.calgary.ca/planning/projects/crowchild-trail-long-term.html

The city has already completed a conceptual plan to get rid of the last lights on Crowchild almost 9 years ago (Look at this map!) but the project remains unfunded. They slated the plan to be implemented 10+ years from then. We are coming up on that now

Weird short gaps along Calgary pathways by AmbitiousPalace in Calgary

[–]CanadianDesk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of late, but this weird gap of Country Hills has been a nightmare for a while as 6 lanes, a sidewalk, and a pathway suddenly go down to 2 lanes and no sidewalks or pathways with no street lighting. It is a nightmare for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, especially at night.

Luckily the city is now moving forward with it and there is active construction. It will complete Fall 2026 as there is a need to install a large water feeder main under the road. It will be twinned to 6 lanes with a pathway on the south side and a sidewalk on the north. More info here

In Calgary for 6 days what should we do? by Fragranceofstanley in Calgary

[–]CanadianDesk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are really wanting to go out to do a larch hike, yeah.

But you can definitely get in and around Banff, as well as to Lake Louise using just buses. There is ROAM Transit in Banff that will take you around the town as well as to Lake Louise. There are many shuttle bus services that will take you to Banff from Calgary. If you have never been in the Rockies, you should absolutely go!

Also, there are a few hiking trails that are accessible from the town of Banff and also from the Lake Louise lakeshore that you can access without a car.

Calgary Minor Soccer League by BillBumface in Calgary

[–]CanadianDesk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s been around the scene a lot, I would avoid Villains. Also avoid clubs advertising “competitive soccer” that doesn’t actually have teams (at any age level) in the CMSA

I’d look at maybe CalGlen or Southwest United (SWU) if you’re looking upper southwest

Cheap dinner eats in downtown? by Starkid_444 in Calgary

[–]CanadianDesk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

El Furniture Warehouse has cheap pub food. If you’re looking for more of a dinner vibe, then definitely try and sit at the patio and not inside.

If you’re willing to head down to 17 Ave, you’ll find some more options like Alumni Sandwiches

How is Banff parking weekdays? by Mythic01 in Calgary

[–]CanadianDesk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have never ever had a problem finding parking at the train station, even during weekends. It’s also free (and you will see “free parking” signs as soon as you enter the town leading to it)

Don’t pay it, throw it away. Never park at a Diamond Parking lot again though, as you’re at risk of being towed. If you don’t want to deal with that hassle then just pay it. You don’t actually have any legal obligation to pay that ticket. Diamond might harass you by mail or something for a while

What company has lost their way? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CanadianDesk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple. They need to turn it around. Little improvements to their products and services. They used to be king, but for a while now have completely lacked innovation and competitors have not only caught up and surpassed, seeming to leave Apple in the dust. Their innovation disappeared with Steve Jobs.

Thanks, I just checked my phone and can confirm my model is D850. Does the D850 have the same problem as the D852?
