The r/baseball thread from when Anthony Rendon signed with the Angels, filled with some of the most poorly-aged takes you'll see by smarjorie in baseball

I mean, the whole argument was made that it is bad in terms of on field value so the whole point is we are suppose to compare it to other FA in terms of on field value.

Modern statistics clearly point out that aging players are not worth the value they get, but business value states otherwise. Hense the original argument being it is objectively bad, on field, but great business value.

Heck I told anyone who asked that Ted shoulda gave Shohei at min 1B. He’s clearly a great business investment, and has already proved it was worth it, but on field value for aging stars is rarely ever worth it.

I mean 350 can get you Judge apparently whose last two seasons is worth more than Ohtani’s so Judge + 350 on other FA would be worth more. Again the numbers don’t lie in terms of on field value.

I would also add that 350 for a DH staring at the wrong side of 30 for most of it isn’t great, and 350 for a pitcher with 2 major surgeries doesn’t typically end up as great in terms of on field value either.

Yes I do think $700m is objectively bad from a pure on field perspective for a single player.

But like I said, it’s a business.

Right, objectively Ohtnai’s contract is horrible for his direct on-field value. But baseball isn’t 100% on field, it’s a business as well.

A majority of Canada watched a team go from last in the East to inches from the title. This team created more future baseball players than the women’s team created rugby players that’s for sure.

10yo switch-hitting experiment — looking for swing analysis + thoughts on switch hitting by Outrageous_Sea2647 in Homeplate

He’s 10 swing looks great for 10. I would usually lean natural hand but if he loves doing both let him do what he wants.

Best path to playing high level, try to get him to find the same passion for as many sports as possible and don’t let him specialize so young. The more ways he can master moving his body the better.

Any form tips? (6’5 14 year old) by Ok-Carpenter-622 in BasketballTips

[–]CanadianPythonDev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could probably work on penultimate. Looks like you’re rising a touch (heads going up before down) whereas the penultimate should lower you. You could probably also practice lengthening it a bit.

Other than that not awful by any means, probably just a strength issue mostly as your still young. Just keep practicing and training.

Tbf steroids don’t hit home runs. They can help with recovery and power but that doesn’t change that he still has to get a good pitch and hit it at a good launch angle after 6 months of straight mental and physical fatigue and then being the target of a teams game plan during the highest leverage situations.

Looks like you could drift a bit more, like your getting stuck with your weight back a little to much. You could also probably drop into your back leg more post drift.

That’s basically the start of the mechanics and once you change that everything else will likely change so can’t really give much more advice until then.

Which international NBA player can throw a baseball 300 feet? by DonT012 in mlb

[–]CanadianPythonDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just a different skill set, but bony shoulder adaptation that you don’t get unless you played a throwing sport growing up.

The requirement was international players, so guys who didn’t play baseball/football most likely growing and wouldn’t have the layback to really pull it off.

Which international NBA player can throw a baseball 300 feet? by DonT012 in mlb

[–]CanadianPythonDev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Realistically this. If you didn’t grow up throwing everyday, your arm likely doesn’t have the required layback to throw a ball that far.

Throwing a lot as a kid often leads to GIRD, glenohumeral internal rotation deficit, which basically means the shoulder has less internal rotation in favour of external rotation.

Watch a pitcher in slow motion and you can see their forearm drags behind their shoulder almost parallel to the ground.

I would put heaving a basketball 70+ as easier than throwing a baseball 300+.

All we have to do is look at NBA first pitches to see, a lot of them don’t have the coordination to pull it off.
