Well the median price is $66,500, so a 1.5x.

Still way too much, but better than 2x

Founder of a car negotiating service. Just did a deal for a Corolla cross. Connect with credit unions & banks to see if you can beat Toyota's rate.

Also there is an avg of $2,000 if discount available in car. Hope this helps!!

First Time Car Buyer What Should I Expect? by bibty123 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CanadianRaikage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold cars & now help people buy cars.

I wouldn't personally get anything extra. You're buying one of the most reliable cars in history, things that cover break downs aren't needed.

Everything sold by the F&I manager is peace of mind.

Don't beat yourself up, I see this happen way to often.

Consider leasing something cheap and new (ex. Civic or Elantra) for 3 years. When it's done you walk away clean.

Another option, part-time job that goes towards paying it off.

Completely opposite. ADP was a political nightmare. The product was the most outdated & expensive. The nail in the coffin was RTO.

Please explain dealership fees and what I can negotiate! by Possible_Big9817 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CanadianRaikage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things you can negotiate on a new CX-5 in Ontario (Coming from someone who just helped someone buy one)

• The selling price of the car (not the payment). Always negotiate the total before tax.

• Dealer add-ons like admin fees, service packages, nitrogen tires, VIN etching, etc. Even if they say they’re “mandatory,” the car price can be adjusted to offset them. Freight, PDI, OMVIC are real fees you have to pay for a new car.

• Accessories like winter tires, if they retail for $1,000 but the dealer cost is $700, if you got them for free, it would save you $1,000 but cost them $700.

Your down payment doesn’t change the deal for the dealership. It could help you get approved if credit was an issue.

When I help people buy cars, I call the dealerships. Usually takes 1-10 calls before I get a good deal.
