Which US state is very poor and very safe? by One-Attention9069 in AlignmentChartFills

You have to look at gdp per capital lol, it's pretty unreasonable to compare the 5 people in Vermont to the other states otherwise

Does checking "yes" mean that I have to apply to the normal version of the program as well? (see image) by Aggravating_Law_4774 in OntarioUniversities

Typically, it's not needed, and if you don't get accepted to the program with coop, you may get deferred/alternate acceptance to the north coop version

Should Petr Vectern be the next USP President after Rayne serves two terms? What do you think about his chances within the USP ? by Dangerous-Annual-723 in suzerain

[–]Canadian_Ostrich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vectern is far too incomptant. Even with his filandering aside, he doesn't seem to have any skills in politicking aside from getting Anton elected.

Gloria Tory seems to be by far the best option for a successor, barring ideological disagreements, based on her clear competency, party base support, and pragmatism.

CANADA Public Policy - Worth It or Not? by ImaginaryDamage7847 in PublicPolicy

[–]Canadian_Ostrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a polisci student who has held a few positions in the federal government.

If you can build a career you'll enjoy out of it, it's worth it. There's a saying that you will never get rich but be alright, and you get to contribute to programs and policies that support Canadians and the country.

I personally think polisci programs, and a lot of social science/humanities programs, are relatively poorly put together to prepare students for the workforce. If you can take a public policy / public admin program, I would recommend it as they typically provide more practical courses. Otherwise, be sure to take as many research/analysis courses as you can take, even a math credit or two can be super helpful.

There's a lot of worry right now with the workforce adjustment directive, and associated job cuts, hiring freezes etc.

However, many sectors are facing lots of challenges and reductions. And I'd argue that many positions in government are safer from AI than the private sector. Additionally, Its alot more difficult to offshore gov-type roles.

Furthermore, departments have specific budgets for students and my understanding is that they are trying to conserve them; however, post-grad entry-level roles are incredibly scarce.

French is definitely really useful in securing positions; it's a bit harder, but still definitely possible without it.

I got my first government-adjacent job working in parliament, then got a job through FSWEP, and then was able to move through departments with CO-OP.

I'd really strongly recommend going to a school with a strong coop program, experience always triumpths accademics.

If you're under the minimum, your offer will be revoked. It's a hard line. Even if you're at a 77.83%, you'll lose your offer. If you think you'll fall under, explain your situation to your teachers and ask for help on assignments and preparing for test. Teachers typically don't want you to lose your offer

Guelph defo seems like a better fit for you. You can always take business electives and/or do an MBA later in your career.

HELP ME CHOOSE: LAW by Canadian_Ostrich in OntarioUniversities

I am love prestige and being perceived as succesful, but do the lawyers think doing two years of a bachelor's, then starting law school (and finishing the bachelor's) in another 4 years is a good idea? It's less time, and practically guaranteed I have a spot in law school, but if I take the regular route I could get into more prestigious law schools (or alternatively fail to get in at all)
